Overview
Provide oversight of mechanical design group and review/approve equipment drawings. Design processes to accomplish customer objectives with existing and new process technologies. Write preliminary design reports for projects, and compile engineering design reports for every engineered product before equipment delivery. Trouble shoot problems that occur once equipment systems are in service. Assess new technological advancements and improvement processes. Provide engineering and design evaluations for sales reps and customers.
Compensation: $110-120K
Responsibilities
1. Manage Design team resources and operating processes to efficiently and effectively:
o Support sales efforts with timely and accurate completion of proposal drawings, development of promotional tools, custom system sizing and design, specification development, customer meetings.
o Support production with timely and accurate submittal and production drawings that efficiently communicate equipment design requirements.
o Support process piloting work including protocol development, operational oversight, data analysis and report generation.
o Support Service in troubleshooting and supporting customers throughout the life of a project.
o Support R&D efforts to develop new products or improve existing products.
o Provide design, drafting and manufacturability support and improvements as requested by any peer departments.
o Monitor work progress and maintain schedules that support the needs of all customers.
2. Personnel Management
o Administer company policies with regard to reporting requirements, timesheets, expense reports, vacation schedules, etc.
o Oversee day-to-day workload of all direct reports.
o Maintain a trained staff capable of meeting the needs of customers.
o Evaluate skill levels of all department personnel and assign work accordingly.
o Conduct annual reviews appropriately and timely.
o Develop and monitor customized training and development plans for all direct reports.
3. Department Leadership
o Hold regular department meetings with pre-published agendas, follow-up notes, and action item tracking
o Communicate a clear vision for the department’s success and execute strategies to achieve it.
o Develop, monitor and meet departmental goals and budgets.
o Track departments’ capacity and develop methods for adapting to large fluctuations in demand.
o Track departments’ productivity and establish targets for improvement.
o Identify risks and vulnerabilities within the department and take action to mitigate.
o Collaborate with other departments on behalf of all direct reports.
o Monitor the departments’ work quality in a manner that provides identification of opportunities for improvement.
o Maintain a detailed understanding of department processes and their contribution to department success.
o Challenge the status quo and lead the departments’ efforts to boost efficiency and enhance value.
o Take a leadership role in design reviews.
o Maintain the department software at a level that is cost effective yet provides for efficient operations.
o Establish and maintain a drawing quality that meets Kurita America’s internal, customer and supplier needs.
o Establish and maintain processes to assure integrity in designs.
4. Be an active member of the Kurita America Manager Group:
o Actively participate in Management meetings and annual planning sessions.
o Prepare quarterly departmental reports.
o Provide department updates and measures.
o Coordinate interdepartmental information flow with Production and Sales.
o Lead or participate in cross functional initiatives and project teams.
o Participate in Operational meetings and process improvements.
o Give meaningful input to corporate goals and objectives.
o Exercise discernment to elevate issues to upper management.
o Identify opportunities and initiate action to improve company policies, products, services, and work processes.
