Definition: Assists in and learns to apply techniques and principles of clinical psychology in a formal training program.
Classification Standards: Positions allocable to this trainee class work under the close supervision of licensed psychologists, in accordance with requirements as set forth by the State Board of Psychology.
Incumbents are assigned to a program designed to provide a comprehensive and intensive overview of the methods, processes, and procedures for providing psychological services to an established client base, in order to gain practical experience and learn psychological techniques in the field of clinical psychology.
Clinical Psychology Intern is distinguished from Clinical Psychologist I in that the latter serves as a post-doctoral staff psychologist under close supervision to provide the full range of psychological services relating to the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and co-occurring disorders.
