[job_card.job_description]Makes field investigations and reports on conditions of structural components of facilities. Performs other duties as assigned. Basic knowledge of professional structural engineering fundamentals as they apply to the construction, operation, rehabilitation, repair and maintenance of sewage treatment plant facilities, sewer collection systems and flood control systems. Basic knowledge of structural design principles including concrete and steel design codes. Some knowledge of recent developments, current literature and sources of information in structural engineering. Skill in performing technical calculations. Ability to understand and interpret detailed structural engineering designs and specifications. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to apply engineering formulas to routine mathematical equations. Possession of a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering. One year of service with the District as a Treatment Plant Operator I or Engineering Technician IV. Civil service status as a Treatment Plant Operator I or Engineering Technician IV; or civil service status as an Engineer Trainee.
General Statement
Under immediate supervision, performs entry level structural engineering work in the design of steel, wood and reinforced concrete structures. May supervise sub-professional personnel.

- Assists in the design and preparation of structural plans and specifications.
- Reviews shop drawings for conformity with contract documents; prepares correspondence.
- Assists in preparation of cost estimates and design calculations for structural components of projects.
- Communicates with other staff members, contractors and vendors in regard to preparation of structural plans and review of shop drawings.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in civil or structural engineering.
