DevOps Engineer

Job Description

In this role, your day‑to‑day work will focus on keeping production systems reliable, observable, and easy to deploy. You’ll spend time designing and tuning monitoring and alerting for ECS, EC2, and IIS‑based applications, defining SLIs / SLOs, and responding to incidents by digging into logs, metrics, and traces to identify root causes. You’ll own container creation and lifecycle management through CI / CD, helping teams ship changes safely using rolling, blue / green, or canary deployments. A typical day also includes improving pipeline automation, enforcing security and compliance in builds, managing secrets and certificates, and evolving infrastructure‑as‑code to keep environments consistent from dev through production. Beyond implementation, you’ll regularly test failover and rollback paths, document operational processes, and partner closely with developers to improve reliability, resilience, and the overall developer experience.

Tasks / Responsibilities

• Monitoring & alerting : Design, implement, and continuously tune monitoring and alerting for application performance (latency, errors, throughput) and ECS task health using CloudWatch and related tooling for ECS / EC2 / IIS workloads.
• SLIs & SLOs : Define, measure, and enforce service-level indicators, objectives, and error budgets to quantify and manage customer impact.
• Incident response & analysis : Investigate application- and infrastructure-level incidents using logs, metrics, and traces; perform root cause analysis across ECS services, EC2 and IIS applications and dependencies.
• Container creation & lifecycle management : Own container image creation, lifecycle, and patching through CI / CD, including infrastructure-as-code–driven updates and safe deployments (rolling, blue / green, canary).
• Secrets & certificates : Automate secure secrets management and certificate rotation using AWS Secrets Manager, Parameter Store, and ACM.
• Resilience & reliability : Architect and implement redundancy, failover, backups, and disaster recovery strategies, supporting multi-AZ and multi-region ECS workloads.
• Reliability validation : Regularly test rollback mechanisms, failover paths, and recovery procedures—not just implement them—to ensure operational readiness.
• Build & maintain CI / CD pipelines in technologies such as TeamCity, Octopus, Bitbucket Pipelines, or Github Actions
• CI / CD pipelines : Design, build, optimize, and operate CI / CD pipelines for .NET and other applications using ECS services, EC2 and IIS, supporting automated testing, deployments, rollbacks, and blue / green or canary strategies.
• Ensure environment consistency
• Environment consistency & developer experience : Create tooling, templates, and automation to standardize local development, build, and deployment workflows for containerized applications and Windows based applications.
• Standardize build and deployment workflows across environments using infrastructure-as-code, immutable container images, and consistent configuration management.
• Infrastructure as Code : Provision, configure, and manage environments reproducibly using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK, ensuring consistency across dev, staging, and production. Manage SCM for organization.
• Document and operationalize deployments
• Operational documentation : Maintain clear documentation for deployment processes, rollback procedures, and operational best practices to support engineering and on-call teams.
• Observability integration : Integrate CI / CD pipelines and runtime environments with logging, metrics, and tracing systems (CloudWatch, X-Ray, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry) to improve developer visibility.
• Security & compliance in pipelines : Enforce security best practices in CI / CD, including IAM role design, secrets handling, container scanning, SCA, and pre-deployment compliance checks.
• Testing automation : Implement automated unit, integration, smoke, and rollback tests in CI / CD pipelines to catch failures before production. Establish minimum test coverage requirements for deployments.
