Patient Financial Services Representative III

Fairview is looking for a Patient Financial Services Representative III to join our team at our Midway location in St. Paul, MN. This position is approved for 80 hours every two weeks and is benefit eligible. This is an ON SITE position at our Midway corporate location. This position is responsible for billing and collection of accounts receivable for inpatient and outpatient accounts, ensures expected payment is collected and accounts are fully resolved, and resolves complex customer service issues. This position understands the importance of evaluating and securing all appropriate financial resources for patients to ensure proper adjudication. This department is responsible for ensuring accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and correct billing practices across multiple systems. Team members research and update patient demographics, code medical services, apply appropriate charges, and resolve account concerns through detailed follow-up and communication. They work directly with patients, payers, and vendors to address insurance issues, process denials, manage credits or refunds, and explain patient financial responsibilities. The department also assists uninsured patients, identifies financial assistance opportunities, and coordinates with external agencies for bad debt and collection processes. Overall, they ensure timely, accurate, and compliant billing and account resolution to support the patient financial experience.

  • Understanding revenue cycle.
  • Contacting payers via portal or provider service center.
  • Processing external correspondence.
  • Ensuring internal correspondence is communicated clearly.
  • Verification of insurance and / or patient demographics.
  • Understanding expected payment amounts.
  • Educating patients and / or guarantors.
  • Compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, payer and internal policies.
  • Processing accounts through multiple workflows.
  • Working accounts requiring more attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of team procedures.
  • Making appropriate contacts with payers.
  • Utilizing knowledge of multiple systems.
  • In-depth investigation and resolution of complex accounts.
  • Utilizing public speaking skills.
  • Assigning complex responsibilities / projects.
  • Acting as a key resource to the team.
  • Responsible for detailed analysis and processing of correspondence.
  • Maintaining, complying, and sharing knowledge of all relevant laws.
  • Extensive knowledge of other areas within the department.

Required Qualifications :

  • 2 years in a medical billing office setting or relevant experience.
  • Organizational skills, Communication skills, Attention to detail.
  • Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC); must obtain within 9 months of hire date.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • 2 years of medical billing office setting experience.
  • Ambulance billing, follow up, verification or coding.
  • MS Office experience.
  • Coordination of benefits experience.
  • Knowledge of Image Trend Billing Bridge software.
  • Experience working with medical terminology.
  • Experience working with CPT-4 and ICD-10.
  • Extensive knowledge of FV account review experience, system applications, and RCM workflows.
  • Billing certification.
  • Substantial system super user experience.
