Key Responsibilities

• Health Assessment and Observation:

• Initiate the admission process and conduct thorough health assessments by observing, interviewing, and collaborating with the healthcare team. Document changes in inmate condition and behavioral health issues in the medical record.

• Care Planning and Prioritization:

• Assist in developing individualized care plans with specific, measurable short-term and long-term goals. Prioritize care to meet the mental health and medical needs of inmates.

• Medication Administration:

• Administer routine and PRN medications as ordered by the physician, ensuring adherence to prescribed treatment protocols.

• Nursing Interventions and Procedures:

• Initiate and document prescribed treatments in accordance with nursing policies and procedures. Assist in minor medical and surgical procedures under the supervision of a physician.

• Care Coordination and Communication:

• Collaborate with the healthcare team to communicate changes in inmate health, document relevant observations, and maintain continuity of care.

• Medication and Drug Control:

• Ensure accurate counting of controlled substances (CDs) and report contraband as required.

• Safety and Infection Control:

• Adhere to universal precautions and infection control standards while providing patient care and maintaining a safe environment.

• Other Duties:

• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support mental health care in the correctional facility.

Key Qualifications

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Graduate from an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program in the state of Alabama or Multistate.

• Active LPN License: Must hold an active LPN license in the state of employment.

• CPR Certification: Maintain current CPR certification.

• Background Check and Security Clearance: A background check, security clearance, and drug screening are required for this role.
