SUMMARY :
The Field Technology Engineer is an advanced technical role responsible for independently assessing system needs, resolving complex field technology issues, and maintaining the reliability and compliance of critical networks and surveillance infrastructure across multiple locations. This position exercises significant discretion in prioritizing work, determining technical methods, and leading technology deployments and upgrades with minimal supervision. Serving as the primary field liaison for IT, Operations, Compliance, and external vendors, the engineer makes informed decisions on equipment, configurations, and project execution while developing documentation and standards that shape broader technology operations. The role provides specialized expertise that supports operational continuity, risk mitigation, and strategic planning, consistent with exempt-level responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (the list is not all inclusive)
- Performs advanced preventive maintenance, system assessments, and performance testing to proactively reduce downtime and enhance operational reliability.
- Evaluates network connectivity issues, identifies root causes, and makes recommendations on improvements while coordinating upgrades and escalations with internal teams and external vendors.
- Oversees the monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting of video surveillance systems to maintain regulatory compliance, system integrity, and operational continuity.
- Directs and coordinates repairs, replacements, and enhancements of cameras, DVR / NVR units, storage devices, and other mission-critical security components.
- Participates in and may lead planning sessions for new store openings, remodels, and major technology deployment projects, ensuring proper sequencing, resource coordination, and execution.
- Functions as the primary field liaison between IT, Operations, Compliance, contractors, and site personnel, exercising discretion in prioritizing work, resolving field challenges, and adjusting timelines as needed.
- Oversees asset tracking processes, including auditing serial numbers, device locations, and technology inventory within centralized systems.
- Maintains detailed field service logs, project documentation, maintenance reports, and site evaluation records to support data-driven decisions and long-term planning.
- Exercises independent judgment in determining technology requirements, prioritizing field issues, and selecting appropriate methods for troubleshooting and remediation.
- Plans, coordinates, and leads technology deployments, upgrades, and infrastructure improvements with minimal supervision.
- Evaluates system performance, identifies operational risks, and recommends strategic improvements to enhance security, uptime, and compliance.
- Manages vendor relationships, including sourcing, scheduling, and approving on-site work for technology, networking, and surveillance partners.
- Develops standards, procedures, and documentation that influence company-wide technology operations and compliance practices.
- Determines equipment, materials, and configuration needs for new installations and provides authoritative guidance on technology specifications.
- Organizes and executes weekly schedules, site visit priorities, and project timelines based on business impact and operational urgency.
- Executes Ad Hoc Projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

3+ years of experience in IT field support, systems installation, or network operations.Strong working knowledge of LAN / WAN environments, Wi-Fi systems, and IP-based security cameras.Proficiency with Windows and macOS troubleshooting, POS hardware, and basic networking tools.Experience in retail, distribution, or cannabis industry environments, preferred.Familiarity with compliance requirements for video retention and data security, preferred.CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certification, preferred.Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites (approx. 50% travel).
