The Technical Writer Specialist is responsible for reviewing flight and maintenance manuals for airborne and ground-based mission systems. Each review involves a thorough examination of operational procedures, such as the theory of operations, troubleshooting, fault isolation, testing, and repair processes. Additionally, the individual will assess training courseware development materials to ensure accuracy and clarity.

Essential Functions :

Communicate with contacts inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures.

Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather information and understand technical specifications and requirements.

Compile and structure researched technical information for data quality assurance reviews of documentation.

Perform formatting, grammatical, and technical reviews for illustrated parts catalogs, maintenance manuals, flight operation, mission systems, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), and various other documentation.

Ensure that all documentation adheres to industry standards and best practices, as well as relevant DoD and FAA regulations and guidelines.

Work closely with the management team to stay updated on project budgets, timelines, milestones, and deliverables.

May manage projects or processes with general supervision.

Recommends enhancements to systems and processes.

Works to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.

In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following systems : flight deck communication systems, radar and navigation systems, flight display systems, electronic flight instruments, flight management systems, terrain awareness and warning systems, mission systems, maintenance training systems, and ground processing systems.

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively.

Proficiency in using Adobe Acrobat, FrameMaker and Microsoft Office.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

A proactive and self-motivated approach to work, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications :

Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years of technical writing experience in an aerospace-drive environment or within the defense industry.

Graduate Degree with two (2) years of technical writing experience in an aerospace-drive environment or within the defense industry.

In lieu of a degree, a minimum of eight (8) years of technical writing experience in an aerospace-drive environment or within the defense industry.

Must have an active Secret Clearance at the time of hire.

Must be a US Citizen.
