Job Summary / Company : We are seeking a highly experienced and professional Director of Facilities Operations to provide strategic leadership and operational management for all physical plant, grounds, and support services. This pivotal role ensures a safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing environment through effective leadership, resource management, and compliance with all relevant codes and institutional standards.
Responsibilities :
- Direct and manage all aspects of building systems maintenance, encompassing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general structural repairs.
- Develop, implement, and rigorously manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program to maximize asset lifespan, minimize system downtime, and support energy efficiency goals.
- Ensure prompt and effective response to all service requests and maintain high standards for work quality and efficiency across all skilled trades.
- Conduct regular, thorough inspections of all facilities and grounds to ensure continuous compliance with operational standards, applicable building codes, life safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Supervise skilled trades staff and coordinate the procurement and management of specialized vendor contracts, ensuring all external work meets institutional quality and safety standards.
- Establish and enforce best-practice standards for the cleanliness, hygiene, and overall sanitation of all facilities, including academic, administrative, recreational, and public spaces.
- Oversee all custodial operations, including managing staffing schedules, optimizing resource allocation, and coordinating supply procurement.
- Implement robust quality assurance protocols, ensuring all cleaning practices adhere to health and safety regulations and support institutional sustainability goals (e.g., green cleaning initiatives).
- Provide timely and professional support for special event setups and manage immediate response to emergency cleaning needs.
- Supervise groundskeeping personnel responsible for the maintenance of all landscaping, hardscapes, and exterior signage.
- Develop and execute seasonal maintenance plans, manage essential grounds equipment, and coordinate services as required for optimal exterior condition.
- Ensure all outdoor spaces are safe, accessible, attractive, and align with institutional aesthetic and accessibility standards.
- Direct and coordinate all snow and ice removal operations and manage response protocols for other inclement weather events to maintain safety and access.
- Develop, control, and manage the annual operational budget for facilities services, adhering strictly to established authorization levels and institutional financial policies.
- Conduct needs forecasting, monitor expenditures, and proactively identify opportunities for cost-saving and efficiency improvements.
- Coordinate all procurement activities for supplies and services, ensuring rigorous compliance with institutional and public procurement policies.
- Maintain accurate financial and operational records to support internal and external audits and required reporting. Strategic resource allocation and meticulous vendor performance management are critical.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Facilities department and all internal stakeholders (e.g., departments, offices) and external partners.
- Proactively communicate service schedules, project impacts, and emergency response information through clear, timely channels, ensuring operational transparency.
- Contribute to emergency preparedness planning, develop comprehensive operational protocols, and actively support broader institutional initiatives such as space planning and sustainability.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, leverage data-informed decision-making, and maintain a commitment to service excellence. This role requires availability for off-hour emergencies and call-in requirements.
Qualifications / Background Profile :
Education : A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or Business Administration.
Note : Progressively responsible related experience may be considered as a substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experience : 5-7 years of progressively responsible and hands-on experience in facilities operations, including significant supervisory or managerial experience across technical trades, custodial, and / or grounds services.

Pay Range : Hourly $50.00 to $65.00
