Senior Construction Manager (Water Treatment Facilities)

Our client, a global infrastructure and engineering organization, is seeking a Senior Construction Manager to oversee major water and wastewater treatment facility projects in the Hampton Roads / Virginia Beach area. You will be based at an active treatment plant, representing the owner on site and driving construction execution from early phases through completion in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day construction activities for large water and wastewater treatment facilities, including work sequencing, field coordination, and issue resolution in an operating-plant environment.
- Provide on-site construction management and inspection services on major capital projects, ensuring work follows plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Administer contracts, including review of RFIs, submittals, change documentation, progress reports, and contractor pay applications.
- Monitor and influence project schedules, using formal scheduling tools to track critical path activities and maintain milestones.
- Coordinate closely with design and project management teams to address construction challenges and support collaborative delivery approaches.
- Champion safety on site, leveraging formal safety training to support a strong safety culture for all parties.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with the owner, contractors, and stakeholders to keep communication clear and issues resolved quickly.
Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or related field .Certification : Certified Construction Manager (CCM) required.Experience :At least 7 years of work on major construction projects , providing construction management, construction administration, or construction inspection services.Hands-on field experience on large treatment facilities and / or other complex infrastructure.Preferred Background
10+ years of relevant experience with at least 5 years in the field on active projects.Experience on water or wastewater treatment plants greater than 30 MGD or on construction programs over $100M in value.Familiarity with both traditional design–bid–build and collaborative delivery models at treatment facilities.Strong ability to troubleshoot complex construction challenges and keep projects moving.Proficiency with scheduling platforms (such as Primavera P6) and project / construction management information systems.Prior work with municipal or utility infrastructure owners.Benefits
