Delivery Leader - Transportation

The Transportation South Group (TSG) is seeking a strong leader to serve as Delivery Leader (DL) for the transportation portfolio in TSG. The DL is a key role in managing the overall operations and delivery of the TSG portfolio, including pricing strategies, management of the P&L, delivering projects per our Corporate Quality Standards, providing excellent client service, and maximizing the long-term profitability of the firm. A successful DL builds a high-performing project management and commercial leader (PMCL) team through effective leadership and rigorous application of Project Delivery framework.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provides leadership in the day-to-day delivery operation of TSG, including company reputation, project performance, P&L, overhead efficiency, pricing strategies, risk management, forecasting and budgeting, performance reporting, health and safety and monitoring of monthly performance figures.
  • Analyzes monthly performance metrics to deliver actionable insights to PMCLs and project managers, supporting issue resolution and continuous improvement in project outcomes.
  • Partners with the TSG Sales Leader (SL) to develop pursuit pricing strategies, risk management committee presentations, and business development strategies.
  • Collaborates with the TSG SL and Technical Services Unit Technical Delivery Managers (TDMs) and Regional Team Leaders (RTLs) to enhance resource management practices, including the implementation of resource-loaded scheduling tools and methodologies.
  • Works closely with the TSG SL, TDMs, and RTLs regarding staffing needs, new hires, and staff growth strategies.
  • Coordinates with the TSG PMCL team to assign project management staff for timely, effective, and efficient project execution.
  • Identifies capability gaps within the project management team and provides coaching, talent development, and career growth support to build core competencies.
  • Leads proposal reviews for pricing, scope, and schedule to ensure alignment with strategic goals and pricing frameworks.
  • Reviews and approves project scopes, schedules, and fees to align with Business Unit strategic goals and delivery standards.
  • Serves as the people leader for PMCLs, offering mentorship, performance feedback, and career development guidance.
  • Manages a portfolio of projects within TSG, overseeing scope, estimates at completion (EAC) variances, revenue execution, schedule, budget, quality, and risk in compliance with CDM Smith's Project Delivery framework and Quality Management standards.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline.
  • AICP, PTP, PE, CEP or approved certification in a related field. Or Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Urban, Community or Regional Planning or related discipline.
  • 15 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree or 14 years of experience with a Masters degree.
  • Domestic and / or international travel may be required.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Successfully managed a $30M or larger diverse portfolio of strategic projects for key clients within the TSG, demonstrating strong leadership and execution capabilities.
  • Possesses strong sales acumen and maintains well-established client relationships across the TSG, contributing to sustained business growth and client satisfaction.
  • Proven track record in managing complex, multi-disciplinary transportation projects, including design, planning, CEI, toll services, and transit initiatives.
  • Demonstrates strong business development capabilities through effective client engagement and successful proposal development.
  • Deep expertise in project management methodologies, encompassing contract administration, budget planning, scheduling, quality assurance, risk mitigation, and financial oversight.
  • Skilled in building and sustaining strong delivery teams to ensure consistent project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Adept at managing multiple concurrent workstreams, balancing competing priorities, and driving projects to meet deadlines and expectations.
  • Possesses sound business judgement, critical thinking, and analytical skills to support strategic decision-making.
  • Effective in navigating and resolving complex conflicts, fostering collaboration across diverse perspectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    Additional Compensation : All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
