Field Scout

Responsibilities:

• Conduct internal audits including USDA GAP compliance, equipment/shop/employee safety, and chemical inventories.
• Assist with monthly chemical use reports.
• Report weekly agronomic metrics to production teams and farm management.
• Create assessments of orchard fertility and weed, disease, and insect pressure in orchards.
• Collect agronomic data including samples of soil/leave/water, stem water potential, irrigation uniformity and efficiency, insect counts, pressure chamber readings, equipment hours, GPS points, and sand test results.
• Collaborate with management with periodic safety updates of manuals and records.
• Champion a world-class safety culture by actively learning, applying, and promoting best-in-class safety processes and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience in permanent plantings.
• Valid in-state driver's license. Forklift certified preferred.
• Private Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain required.
• Pest Control Advisor License a plus.
• Strong demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
• Understanding of agronomic practices in pecan orchards.
• Strong computer and technical skills including using GPS units to collect data.
• Must be able to accommodate the regular farm schedule of 50+ hours per week, in addition to work nights and weekends, per business needs.
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the job and willing to work in outside weather conditions which includes hot, cold, and rain.
