About Southern Queens Parks Association (SQPA)

Since 1976, SQPA has been dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, adults, and families in Southern Queens. The Roy Wilkins COMPASS and SONYC programs offers students enriching, club-like experiences that promote academic achievement and leadership skills. COMPASSis short forthe Comprehensive After School System of New York City for elementary students. SONYC, which stands forSchools Out NYC, is the middle school model that serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.Structured like clubs, the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom through trips and opportunities for instruction beyond the traditional facilities.

Position : Activity Specialist

Were seeking Activity Specialists with talent and enthusiasm in the ARTsor other physical, enriching disciplines. This in-person role is ideal for educators, teaching artists, or youth development professionals who are passionate about engaging and inspiring students.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement age-appropriate enrichment activities in your area of expertise.
• Promote independent growth by encouraging critical thinking, working in partnerships, and collaborative groups.
• Assist with physical education, visual arts, and performing arts.
• Escort students between activities in a timely, orderly manner.
• Develop and implement project-based lesson plans with support from the Education specialist.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and program evaluations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Program Director.

Roy Wilkins Recreation Center, 177-01 Baisley Blvd., Jamaica, New York 11434

Hours of Work : 15-20 hours per week (Program operates thirteen full days during the academic year when 7-8 hours are required on those days)

Pay Rate : $17.00 per hour

Classified Position : Non-exempt (Entitled to overtime pay)

Summer Months : Summer employment during July and August is seasonal and optional for part-time program staff. Programming hours may increase to approximately 35 hours per week. Staff being considered for summer roles will be asked to submit an employment intent form in advance
