Who We Are
The Comparative Medicine Program (CMP) enhances excellence in research and teaching at Texas A&M through high quality animal care. We provide a variety of services to researchers at the university through standard and specialized facilities. These services include the procurement of animals and animal husbandry supplies, provision of veterinary care, use of CMP surgical facilities, a polyclonal antibody production service, technical support services, and animal use training services. What We Want
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional with a strong background in animal health and biomedical research across multiple species to join our team as a CMP Technical Services Specialist III. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced technical skills in animal care and clinical support, possess excellent communication and organizational abilities, show commitment to training and mentoring others, and demonstrate an ability to work independently with minor direct supervision. They should be proactive in managing breeding colonies, supporting veterinary procedures, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and record-keeping. A collaborative spirit, attention to detail, a drive to learn new skills, and a passion for improving animal welfare and research outcomes are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of progressively responsible experience in a biomedical research environment with a strong emphasis on animal health.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Must be able to obtain American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification within one year of employment.
Must be able to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle driver license within 30 days of employment.
Successful completion of a minimum of 3 CMP Laboratory Animal Science Courses within the first year in this position.
Successful completion of Barrier Colony Management, Good Laboratory Practices and SBAT training within first year in this position.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate competent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, biomedical science, animal science or a related area.
Evidence of increasing levels of responsibility in previous jobs either programmatic or supervisory.
Six years of experience performing technical procedures (ex: blood collection, injection, anesthesia, handling, and restraint).on a variety of animal species including but not limited to rodents, companion, or agricultural species.

Other Requirements Factors:
Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.
Availability to work outside of normal business hours; such as a Tuesday thru Saturday shift or a Sunday thru Thursday shift. Work weekends and Holidays as required.
