JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY :
Under general supervision, operates sophisticated, multi-modality ultrasound equipment to obtain quality ultrasonic images. Positions patient and adjusts ultrasound equipment to the correct setting for each examination. Performs and records ultrasound diagnostic tests of all parts of the anatomy. Insures the ultrasound exam is of acceptable diagnostic quality and records preliminary findings to assist in physician’s interpretations.
Education
Completion of a one (1) year ultrasound training program at an approved school of diagnostic imaging or a minimum of two (2) years of supervised on-the-job training. MFM experience required
Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress and fellow employees.
- Experience with maternal fetal medicine sonography including detailed fetal anatomy, fetal abnormalities, fetal echocardiogram, ultrasound guided procedures, nuchal translucencies.
- Routine obstetrics including fetal growth, BPP/AFI, doppler studies, cervical length.
- Limited gynecology included viability, first trimester ultrasound and ultrasound guided procedures.
- Analytical skills necessary to determine the best method of providing requested sonograms based on the specifics of the individual case. Ability to detect pathology based on the knowledge of physiologic causes and effects of diseases.
- Verbal communication skills necessary to exchange information on a professional basis with fellow professional, non-professional and ancillary personnel.
Licensures, Certifications
Healthcare Provider (CPR Certification) MFM certification prefered
Physical Requirements
- Ability to position patients for up to 20% of work time and to stand and walk for up to 80% of work time.
- Ability to push and handle heavy equipment.
Working Conditions
- Normal patient care environment with occasional (less than20% of work time) exposure to patients with possible infectious diseases.
- Visual and mental fatigue from prolonged viewing of CRT screens (up to 50% of work time).
- Regular exposure to radiation with little or no chance of injury when established safety procedures are followed.
Conditions of Employment
Registry eligible at time of hire; with registration for ARDMS certification exam within six months from date of hire, and successful completion of ARDMS exam within one year from date of hire, earning the RDMS credential.
