Description / Job Summary
Baltimore City Community College is searching for an Assistant Professor in Dental Hygiene. This position requires expertise in teaching Dental Hygiene theory and clinical courses. The selected candidate will teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester (with a reduced course load to support administrative duties as required by the Commission on Dental Accreditation's standards). Teaching assignments could be any combination of face-to-face (day or evening), hybrid, or online, and are subject to change as needed.
Responsibilities / Duties
Provide administrative leadership and strategic direction for the Dental Hygiene Program, ensuring curriculum quality, CODA compliance, and ongoing program development.Lead all accreditation activities, including CODA reports, self-studies, regulatory adherence, and continuous assessment for program improvement.Oversee curriculum planning and evaluation, including course sequencing, master syllabi development, instructional technology integration, and evidence-based teaching practices.Manage laboratory and clinical operations, facility setup and maintenance, and activities related to licensure examinations.Recruit, hire, mentor, and evaluate faculty, coordinate scheduling, workload, and professional development initiatives.Advise students, support retention efforts, and develop admissions criteria, performance standards, and student policies.Administer program budgets, equipment, supplies, and resource allocation in collaboration with the Dean's office.Serve as a liaison to clinical partners, external agencies, and advisory boards, and participate in recruitment, marketing, outreach, and college committees.Lead program assessment of student learning outcomes and data analysis; maintain program handbooks, policy documents, and operational manuals.Facilitate meetings, support institutional events and student activities, and teach assigned courses while maintaining required qualifications.Perform additional responsibilities assigned by academic leadership and respond to evolving program needs.Required Qualifications
Education :
Master's degree in dental hygiene or a doctoral degree in dental sciences from a regionally accredited college or university.Experience :
Three (3) or more years of full-time teaching in a college / university, which must include at least.(2) Two years of supervisory and administrative experience with accountability for individual and programmatic outcomes.
Three (3) or more years of work experience as a Dental Hygienist or Dentist.Yearly PPD (tuberculin) testing.Required immunizations.Certifications / Licenses :
Licensed to practice Dentistry or Dental Hygiene in the State of Maryland (or eligible for licensure).CPR certification (American Heart Association).Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral Degree.Five (5) or more years of teaching experience, which should include :Knowledge and skill in the use of computer dental software for documentation
Five (5) or more years of recent clinical experience (clinical practice or clinical faculty).Local anesthesia certificate.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to identify, develop, and implement training and development for both students and designated faculty and staff.Knowledge of CODA standards, accreditation processes, and regulatory compliance for dental hygiene programs.Proven ability to thrive and contribute effectively within institutions that embrace cultural, economic, and linguistic diversity.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteStrong interpersonal and communication skills.BCCC is the only community college in Baltimore City, one of 16 community colleges in Maryland, and both a higher education institution and a State of Maryland agency.
