This is an opportunity to work with a skilled support staff and help pet families when they need it most—no overnight shifts or on-call duties. Our clinic sees a high volume of cases each day, ranging from minor emergencies to urgent follow-ups and same-day wellness visits.
The Locum Veterinarian provides high-quality medical care to small animals in a high-volume express and urgent care setting. This role requires timely and efficient triage, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, collaboration with a skilled technical team, and clear communication with clients to ensure a positive and informed experience.
Perform medical exams, triage, diagnostics, and treatments for small animal patients in a same-day express care environment.
Manage a high case volume efficiently, maintaining accurate and timely electronic medical records.
Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners about diagnostics, treatment options, and next steps
Perform procedures and treatments typically associated with both urgent care and general practice (e.g., wound care, laceration repair, abscess management, ear infections, minor GI/dermatologic conditions, etc.)
Provide continuity of care and refer patients for advanced services when appropriate
Uphold clinic standards for quality, safety, and client service
Administer and prescribe medications, vaccinations, and other treatments based on current veterinary standards and patient needs.
Interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., radiographs, bloodwork, urinalysis) and communicate results to clients effectively.
Provide preventive care, including wellness checks and nutritional counseling.
Utilize aseptic techniques during procedures to ensure the safety and health of animals.
Complete patient records within practice specified timeframe and standards.
Educate pet owners on proper pet care, including grooming, nutrition, and general wellness practices.
Handle animals safely and effectively, employing appropriate restraint techniques when necessary.
Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to provide comprehensive care.
Stay updated on advancements in veterinary medicine and participate in continuing education opportunities.
Comply with all practice protocols and policies, including OSHA, DEA, and local veterinary board regulations.
