Selection Procedure : :

A committee will evaluate applications taking into account breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Interviews may include a writing sample, presentation, teaching demonstration, and / or performance test. The committee will recommend finalists to the President / CEO and / or Vice President of Instruction or Student Services for a second interview. The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources and needs, and Board of Trustees’ approval. The starting date will be determined following Board approval and receipt of live scan clearance.

Position Overview :

The Accounting and Management Department is an interdisciplinary department that includes courses in Accounting and Business Management. Accounting offers an associate degree in accounting and seven certificates in the discipline of accounting. Business Management offers nine associate degrees and 18 certificates in the discipline of management. The Accounting and Management department offers over 100 classes per semester and currently has 7 fulltime faculty and 40 adjunct professors.

Our accounting program provides many educational opportunities for students and working professionals to design a plan for their individual goals through certificate and degree completion. We provide these opportunities through offering courses that are relevant and provide students with skills that are in high demand in the accounting profession. Some of our core courses include :

  • Accounting – Financial (BUSA 7) Defines financial accounting and its relevance to business decision makers.
  • Accounting – Managerial (BUSA 8) Defines managerial accounting and the role of managerial accountants,
  • Intermediate Accounting (BUSA 52 & 52B) Defines concepts and principles and an in-depth examination of the conceptual framework for financial reporting of the balance sheet and income statement.
  • Federal Income Tax Laws (BUSA 58) United States Federal and California state income tax law as it relates to individuals, sole proprietorships, and other business entities.
  • Corporations and Partnerships Taxation (BUSA 61) Practical application of Federal and California state income tax law utilizing professional tax software for the preparation of business and corporate income tax returns.
  • External Auditing (BUSA 63) An introduction to emerging professionals and perspective certified public accountants (CPA) candidates to the basics and fundamentals of external auditing.
  • Major Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Teach courses in the disciplines for which the candidate meets Minimum Qualifications or the equivalent.
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with course outline of record.
  • Instruct and support students with diverse backgrounds utilizing culturally relevant pedagogy, careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including for online instruction, informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions, student learning outcomes, and support a philosophy of instruction focusing on critical thinking and analysis.
  • Maintain scheduled office and campus hours and participate in department / division meetings and committees.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including timely completion of required operational, administrative, and compliance-related responsibilities, in accordance with and in adherence to college, division, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Late afternoon and / or evening assignments or weekends may be required as part of the regular contract.
  • Effective oral and written communication with students.
  • Commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
  • In close cooperation with other faculty participate in the design, development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum, assess and enter Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Degree and Certificate Outcomes (DCOs).
  • Use appropriate technologies to support teaching and administrative responsibilities in accordance with the College’s policies and requirements.
  • Participate in the dual enrollment program by volunteering to teach dual enrollment courses in collaboration with the Dual Enrollment Program and with partner high schools and districts.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assess and enter Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Deree and Certificate Outcomes (DCOs).
  • Serve on College Committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program(s).
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities on behalf of the instructional program.
  • On-campus course assignments will be required.
  • Required Qualifications :

    A. The minimum of one of the following awarded / conferred from a regionally accredited institution :

  • Master’s in accountancy or business administration with accounting concentration; OR
  • Bachelor’s in business with accounting emphasis or business administration with accounting emphasis or economics with an accounting emphasis AND Master’s in business, business administration, business education, economics, taxation, finance or the equivalent. OR
  • The equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application), OR
  • California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.);
  • AND

    B. Commitment to the community college goals / objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.

  • Current working knowledge of Financial, Managerial, Cost, and Intermediate accounting.
  • Current working knowledge of Individual, corporate, and business tax theory and tax preparation.

  • Licenses and Other Requirements :

    The incumbent may periodically be required to travel to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

  • Equivalencies :

    Candidates not holding the stated required qualifications who are requesting consideration based on an equivalency will be asked to complete the equivalency-related questions included in the application as well as provide transcripts from the appropriate college / university.

    Conditions of Employment :

    The person holding this position is required to be present on Mt. San Antonio College’s campus to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.

    This is a full-time, tenure-track , 10-month contract position that begins in the 2026-27 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and / or part-time teaching, and directly related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9. The direct relationship of experience will be determined by the District. Per Appendix A.4.i of the faculty collective bargaining agreement, the District shall, at the time of initial salary schedule placement, determine whether the newly employed professor shall be placed on the Academic or Vocational salary track.

    Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live scan services shall be borne by the candidate.
