Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant (MA) supports clinical providers by performing a wide range of administrative and clinical tasks. This role plays an essential part in delivering excellent patient care, maintaining efficient clinic operations, and promoting overall health and wellness. The MA helps manage patient flow, supports diagnostic and treatment activities, and works collaboratively with the care team to ensure smooth daily operations.

• Take vital signs, document in the electronic medical record (EMR - Athena), perform system reviews, and conduct point-of-care testing
• Administer immunizations, injections, and oral medications under provider direction or standing orders
• Assist providers with diagnostic tests, therapeutic measures, and treatments
• Observe and document patient reactions as necessary
• Perform phlebotomy, prepare lab work, and process swabs and specimens
• Participate in patient education and self-management guidance as directed by the provider
• Track preventive care needs, coordinate outside diagnostic testing, and support referral completion
• Conduct outreach to patients and specialists to coordinate referrals, close care gaps, obtain records, and support care coordination
• Collaborate with disease management or case management programs when needed

• Manage patient flow to ensure an efficient and positive visit experience
• Prepare exam and procedure rooms based on visit needs
• Answer multiple phone lines, respond to emails, and provide front-desk support as needed
• Maintain inventory, order supplies, and restock clinic and dispensary items
• Serve as an external-facing representative for scheduling, patient registration, and inquiries
• Travel to other sites or off-site events as needed for coverage

• Perform and document required QA controls accurately
• Follow all safety and infection control protocols, including universal precautions
• Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Meet medical record documentation standards per policies and procedures
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to OSHA and CLIA requirements

• Participate in team meetings, huddles, and care-planning discussions
• Engage in training, orientation, competency assessments, and ongoing learning
• Collaborate with team members to meet performance targets and clinic goals
• Work flexible shifts as needed
• Perform additional duties as assigned

• Ability to appropriately set up exam and procedure rooms using sterile/aseptic techniques
• Basic knowledge of cleaning, sterilization, and autoclaving processes
• Ability to assist with office-based procedures
• Competency in administering immunizations across all age groups
• Experience documenting in an EMR is required

• High school diploma or GED required
• Medical Assistant certification through WA DOH required
• Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program
• Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in primary or urgent care

• Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinic
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Intermediate computer proficiency preferred

$25 - $29 per hour (depending on experience)
