Senior Technical Service Engineer

Huntsman is seeking a Senior Technical Service Engineer supporting the Polyurethanes Automotive Division located in Auburn Hills, MI. This position will report to the Technical Manager.

Job Scope

This role provides advanced technical support to customers and internal sales teams in the area of polyurethane foam and composite systems. The position focuses on troubleshooting, customer training, formulation adjustments, trial execution, and acting as a technical liaison to ensure effective processing and product performance.

In summary, as the Senior Technical Service Engineer, you will :

Serve as the primary technical advisor and point of contact for customers.

Train customers in the safe and effective processing of polyurethane systems.

Prepare sample blends from small-scale to tote-sized quantities for trials.

Develop project and trial plans, including objectives, actions, milestones, and resource needs.

Run in-house trials using high-pressure foam processing equipment.

Conduct, document, and analyze customer trials and baseline processes.

Troubleshoot material and process issues at customer sites.

Adjust formulations to meet evolving customer requirements.

Support Account Managers in account strategy development and execution.

Collaborate with Development Chemists by providing direct insight into customer processes, needs, and performance requirements.

Operate and maintain assigned process and laboratory equipment.

Ensure all activities comply with Huntsman Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.

Provide backup support to other Technical Service Engineers as needed.

Act as an engaged and active member of the technical team.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

Education required :

BA / BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science.

Experience required :

5-10+ years of experience processing and / or formulating polyurethane systems, preferably within the automotive industry.

Skills and knowledge

Strong desire to work directly with customers and build effective face-to-face relationships.

Willingness to learn and teach others.

Mechanical aptitude with understanding of fluid mechanics and chemical processes.

Strong problem-solving capabilities.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to travel up to 30%.

Proficiency with email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and project management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct experience with automotive polyurethane applications.

Experience operating high-pressure foam machinery or process equipment.

Background in formulation optimization or process troubleshooting in manufacturing environments.

Working Environment

Combination of laboratory, plant-floor, and customer-site environments.

Requires handling of chemicals and operation of processing equipment following safety protocols.

Travel up to 30% to customer locations, manufacturing sites, and internal facilities.
