Job Summary

The County of San Diego Department of General Services - Mail Services has current openings for Mail Carriers!

Interviews will take place the week of December 29th, 2025, and JOB OFFERs will be made the week of January 5th, 2026.

FUTURE SALARY INCREASES

June 2026 – 4.37 % increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 1.37% Market Adjustment)

June 2027 – 4.37% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the- Board +1.37% Market Adjustment)

The Department of General Services (DGS) is responsible for mail services for the County of San Diego. Mail Services provides complete mailing services to over 410 Mail Stops. County departments mail in excess of 5.6 million pieces annually, including express mail, special service mail, and interoffice correspondence. Mail Services is responsible for mailing these pieces and works with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to take advantage of postal discounts available to high volume business mailers.

Mail Carriers are responsible for an assigned mail delivery route and drive mid to large size vans (i.e., Ford Transit 350 XL) on a daily basis. Mail Carriers operate specialized machines and computer programs to process mail and deliver mail to various County mail stations and the U.S. Post Office. Incumbents in this class operate automated mail sorting and processing machines within the mail center, and perform related work.

SELECTION INTERVIEW DATES

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below :

• Interviews, Job Offers and Background Process begin in December  2025 . Note : Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
• Pre-employment Medical Screening : Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
• Anticipated Start Date : Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

NOTE : To qualify with Mail Processor experience, you must have been employed with the County of San Diego in the Mail Processor classification.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Drive-in all-weather conditions throughout the County of San Diego. Working hours are Monday through Friday from 7 : 00am to 3 : 30pm. Mail Carriers may have continuous exposure to noise and repetitive lifting of objects; frequently weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally weighing up to 70 pounds.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
