Job Title: Billing Specialist (Payment Application Specialist)

Job Duration: 16 Weeks

Shift: Day Shift | 5 x 8-hour shifts (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)

Job Type: Onsite, Possible Temp-to-Hire

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
• 5 years preferred
• Experience posting payments in the Brightree (BT) system strongly preferred
• Comparable Homecare payment posting experience acceptable
• Experience working with commercial payors required

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma required
• Proof of diploma and/or transcripts must be provided

Job Summary

The Payment Application Specialist is responsible for researching, auditing, reconciling, and applying all cash receipts to Accounts Receivable (AR) accounts. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and reconcile payment data across multiple payer sources.

Key Responsibilities

• Research, audit, reconcile, and apply cash receipts to AR accounts
• Interpret and apply payments using Explanations of Benefits (EOBs)
• Reconcile and apply payments, recoupments, and Provider Level Adjustments (PLBs)
• Identify external and non-patient payments and transfer them to the appropriate general ledger accounts using designated adjustment codes
• Process payments and denials using accurate denial and remittance codes
• Apply payments and denials to the correct account and liability buckets
• Handle Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) payment processing
• Perform in-depth research to resolve balancing issues and reconcile unidentified payments posted to clearing accounts
• Identify issues related to ERAs, contractual calculations, and payer compliance, and escalate as appropriate
• Utilize system-generated reports and internal balancing tools to research and reconcile variances
• Recognize and communicate opportunities for process improvement
• Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in multiple areas of payment application
• Train team members, document processes, and participate in workflow testing and special projects
