Job Title : Specimen Processor I

Job Description

The main function of a Specimen Processor is to perform specimen accessioning, sample sorting, and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Introduce and prepare biological specimens for laboratory processing.
• Open specimens and pour off into secondary containers for analysis and testing.
• Verify patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted.
• Enter patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
• Meet key production metrics and quality measures for timely and accurate results.
• Unpack and route specimens to respective staging areas.
• Pack and ship specimens to appropriate testing facilities when required.
• Prepare and store excess specimen samples properly.
• Resolve and document any problem specimens.
• Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste safely.
• Comply with environmental health and safety policies and procedures.
• Operate automated instrumentation under supervision if necessary.

Work Environment

Work during the 2nd shift from 6 PM to 2 : 30 AM, Monday to Friday, with rotating Saturday shifts every other week. A 10% shift differential is offered for the 2nd shift. A 30-minute lunch / dinner break is provided. Possibility of required overtime. This role provides a great entry point into a medical lab environment, especially since previous experience is not mandatory.

This is a Contract position based out of Wood Dale, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00 / hr.
