Description

Role Mission: Dean of Culture works directly with scholars to ensure that they graduate from IDEA Public Schools and go to and through college by providing student centered supports aimed at creating a positive and supportive school culture conducive to learning. The Dean of Culture, in collaboration with school leadership, is responsible for creating and facilitating key systems that drive the culture of the school. With the school leadership team, the Dean of Culture will ensure that each student is appropriately supported so that they can make progress towards their individual goals. The Dean of Culture will support the principals in three key areas: Student Culture, Staff Culture, and Community Culture.

Compensation:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $60,000 and $72,000, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.

  • Paid Family Leave: Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for the birth or adoption of a child, based on their tenure with the organization and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Staff members may apply for up to​ 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 maximum per year subject to manager discretion and budget availability.
  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services available at no cost.

Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time, referral bonuses, professional development, and a 403(b) plan. IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable.

What You Bring -- Competencies

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience required; school leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Expertise in the following highly preferred:Positive Behavior Intervention and SupportsCrisis Prevention/Management

What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities

Student Culture

  • Build and support a student culture based on Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS)Lead Professional Development for all staff around best practices in PBISSelect/create and monitor systems to track student behaviors, interventions, and supportsIdentify trends and create plans to improve each student’s experience and perception of school support and ability to function successfully in both the school and classroom settingApproach and teach student behavior as a set of lagging, learned and mastered skillsCreate safe spaces within the schools for students to deescalate and build back trust with their school communityDevelop individualized plans for students to increase their agency and ownership of their behaviorManage student incentive system as a part of the school-wide behavior system.Plan, implement, and maintain monthly culture focus for school-wide initiatives (Anti-Bullying, Monitor student grades, identify trends and implement proactive interventions to keep students on track to graduate.

Staff Culture

  • Building a staff culture dedicated to Excellence
  • Build and support a staff culture of excellence and accountabilityCreate, maintain, and monitor school-wide behavior systems, ensuring all staff are faithfully implementing school-wide behavior systemsSupport Grade Level Administrations (other Leadership Team Members) and Grade Team Teacher Leaders in decision-making and implementation of positive behavioral interventions and systemsAttend Grade-Level Meetings and provide feedback to Grade Team Teacher Leaders on both meeting structure and meeting impact.
  • Coach and manage all teachers on implementation of appropriate responses to behavior
  • Track staff sentiment and morale via regular surveys and supporting interviews with staff
  • Function as a part of the School Leadership Team for both Academy and College PrepAttend all leadership team operating mechanisms like Daily Huddle, Lead Team Tactical, Lead Team Step Back, etc.Report directly to the Campus Principals for both Academy and College Prep

Community Culture

  • Develop and implement consistent communication with parents/families to both celebrate and address student behaviors.
  • Proactively partners with families to ensure communication is timely (response to parents within 48 hours) and that all communication barriers are eliminated
  • Create and deliver a Parent Weekly Newsletter for families
  • Leverage other staff and leadership to contribute to newsletter
  • Manage student attendance matrix and collaborate with team members to address attendance concerns with families/parents
  • Collaborate with school Social Worker and Counselors to provide families/parents with appropriate interventions
  • Support teachers/staff in meetings with parents and families
