Position Summary :
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a key role in developing and implementing a comprehensive system of support that fosters independence, social engagement, and personal growth for individuals with Down Syndrome.

This position is responsible for planning and facilitating meaningful programming focused on healthy movement, community involvement, and ongoing skill development. In alignment with DSL's mission and values, the DSP emphasizes self-advocacy in all classes and supports participants in building social and independent living skills to promote personal independence.
Design and implement individualized and group activities that support the developmental, cognitive, and social needs of each participant.Promote healthy movement and physical activity through structured and inclusive exercise, recreation, and wellness-based programming.Facilitate community engagement opportunities , including outings in the organization 's shuttle bus , volunteer experiences, and partnerships that foster inclusion and real-world learning.Support participants in developing daily living skills , communication strategies, and cognitive abilities to maximize independence.Build meaningful relationships with participants while maintaining professional boundaries and modeling respectful, person-centered interactions.Maintain accurate documentation of participant progress, daily activities, and any incidents or concerns in compliance with agency policies.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members , including families, therapists, and other staff, to support each participant's goals.Provide direct care and supervision , ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of all individuals served.Encourage and support self-advocacy by empowering participants to make choices and express their preferences.Assist with transportation and mobility needs , both within the program space and during community-based activities.Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability , responding to the evolving needs and interests of participants.Participate in staff-wide meetings and events as required to support communication, collaboration, and organizational development.Qualifications , Certifications, Education, Experience, and Skill s :
