Description
The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, scheduling and facilitating outdoor education programs, stewarding relationships with community partners, and managing program equipment and resources. This position requires a passion for the outdoors, strong communication skills, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with diverse stakeholders. The ideal person will embrace Forest Park as a living learning space, provide programs to deepen relationships to nature through exploration, play, and learning and be committed to nurturing the next generation of park stewards.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB :
- Represent the organization at relevant events and conferences.
- Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with new community partners, including schools, youth organizations, and non-profits.
- Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with existing community partners, ensuring ongoing engagement and support.
- Collaborate with members of the Communications Department to create engaging communication materials, including flyers, social media content, and website updates, to promote outdoor education programs and events.
- Design and deliver outdoor education programs for diverse audiences, incorporating hands-on learning experiences and environmental stewardship principles.
- Offer assistance and guidance to groups planning outdoor activities in the park, including logistical support and educational resources.
- Plan and coordinate outdoor events, workshops, and field trips, ensuring a safe and educational experience for participants.
- Assist with the development and implementation of program evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness and impact of outdoor education initiatives.
- Assist with developing educational resources, including lesson plans, interpretive materials, and interactive learning tools, to support outdoor education programs.
- Oversee the inventory, maintenance, and organization of program equipment.
- Oversee seasonal staff and approve timesheets.
- Coordinate program and event volunteers.
Requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, environmental education, outdoor recreation, or related field.Minimum of three (3) years of experience in education or a related field.Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.Experience with outdoor equipment management and safety protocols.Passion for environmental stewardship and outdoor learning.Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook & Office suite (Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.Scheduling flexibility that occasionally allows working weekends and evenings.LICENSE REQUIRED : Valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS / WORK CONDITIONS :
Occasionally works in an indoor office environment with frequent periods of time working outside to support education programsOften computers and other office equipment are operated.Frequently required to traverse the park over uneven terrain.Frequently lifts and moves equipment up to 30 pounds; occasionally required to lift and move equipment weighing over 50 pounds.
