Position Summary

The Travel Med-Surg RN provides high-quality nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent patient assessment skills, and the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced acute care settings. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care on a Med-Surg unit, including assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.

Monitor and document patient conditions, vital signs, and responses to treatment.

Manage multiple patients with varying diagnoses across medical and post-surgical needs.

Utilize critical thinking to implement and evaluate individualized care plans.

Collaborate with healthcare providers to support patient recovery and discharge planning.

Maintain accurate and timely charting in the facility’s EMR system (EPIC, Cerner, Meditech, etc., depending on assignment).

Follow facility protocols, safety standards, and infection-control procedures.

Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and self-care strategies.

Support safe transitions of care and ensure continuity across shifts.

Required Education

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

BSN preferred (varies by facility)

Required Experience

Minimum of 1–2 years recent Med-Surg experience in an acute care hospital

Previous travel experience preferred (some facilities require no first-time travelers)

Strong proficiency with EMR systems (EPIC preferred if requested)

Licensure / Certifications

BLS required (AHA)

ACLS required or preferred depending on facility

NIHSS, CPI, or other specialty certifications may be required per hospital guidelines
