Summary
Assists the Special Project Coordinator in a Head Start program by maintaining playgrounds and outdoor learning spaces by constructing play structures, caring for gardens, and ensuring general upkeep. Coordinates with community agencies to recruit volunteers, organize events, and secure donations or grants for outdoor learning. Supports classroom outdoor projects by providing materials and assistance to children and staff. Maintains an organized, safe workspace, manages inventory of tools and materials, and conducts weekly inspections of outdoor areas to identify and report needed repairs or safety issues.
Duties
- Assists Special Project Coordinator with the building and maintenance of program playgrounds and other outdoor play spaces. Duties include the construction of play structures, installation and upkeep of garden spaces, and general upkeep of outdoor areas.
- Works with community agencies to recruit volunteers, coordinate volunteer activities and events. Identifies resources within the community to support outdoor learning, including direct donations and grants.
- Supports children’s access to a variety of outdoor learning opportunities by supporting teaching staff with class projects; provides materials and support as needed.
- Assists with the daily upkeep of the workspace and work materials; ensures that the workspace is orderly, and all safety concerns are addressed immediately. Assists with the organization and inventory of building materials and work tools.
- Conducts weekly inspections of all outdoor play spaces to identify needed repairs and / or safety concerns; document and submit to SPC as scheduled
- Demonstrates professional behaviors (including time and attendance) and work habits which comply with Agency personnel policies and procedures, works closely with all Head Start component staff to facilitate integrated service delivery, and completes special assignments from the Head Start Director.
