About the role

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will work in collaboration with the SVP of Development & Communications and VP of Strategic Partnerships to solicit monetary funding and large-scale in-kind donations. This position will help to grow CHNY community & corporate partnerships and develop a portfolio of relationships to cultivate. The Director of Strategic Partnerships role will encompass both relationship management and event planning directly related to stewarding CHNY partners and prospects. Event planning may include but is not limited to the Holiday Gift Program, Covenant House NY Art Show, donor & volunteer recognition events, and Peer-to-Peer fundraisers. The Director of Strategic Partnerships & Special Projects will work closely with the VP of Strategic Partnerships, Partnership & Communications Coordinator, and CHI Corporate Partnership Team to increase capacity around volunteer activities. The Director of Strategic Partnerships & Special Projects will work with the VP of Strategic Partnerships to help identify and strategize additional opportunities to leverage external support to match internal organizational needs and, in turn, amplify call to actions with the Partnership & Communications Coordinator.  The Director of Strategic Partnerships will also work alongside the Development Coordinator on in-kind donation opportunities, including corporate kit packing events, and peak seasons such as Pride Month Youth Homelessness Awareness Month (YHAM) and Holiday Giving. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Development & Communications and works collaboratively across the Development and Communications department to support the team’s work.

What you'll do

Strategic Partnerships

  • Support and collaborate with the VP and SVP in all matters related to strategic partnership research, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Work closely with the VP of Strategic Partnerships to research & outreach to various categories of corporations, local businesses, churches, and nonprofits to cultivate partnerships and ultimately seek monetary funding and in-kind support.
  • Work cross-collaboratively to create new events and opportunities which meet organizational needs and engage corporations, community groups, and individuals in CHNY’s work.
  • Alongside the VP of Strategic Partnerships, create partnerships that include Peer-to-Peer fundraising and support, with a focus on event sponsorship and building annual participation with corporate & community groups.
  • Represent Covenant House New York at presentations, site visits, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Partnership & Communications Coordinator to utilize communications platforms as a means to promote volunteer & cultivation events to drive recruitment.
  • Cultivate donor and volunteer relationships, creating new prospects for CHI’s Major Gift team.

Special Projects & Events

  • Serve as the CHNY Development department’s primary point person around event-planning for both CHNY and CHI / CHNY collaborative fundraising, cultivation, stewardship, and celebratory events.
  • Collaborate with CHI’s Corporate Partnership team to action CHNY partner engagement and in-kind donations to support key events such as Youth Homelessness Awareness Month, Rally to End Youth Homelessness, and other major donor cultivation events.
  • Support the AVP of Strategic Partnerships in delegating volunteer event staffing to ensure all upcoming events have appropriate staff available to execute relationship management duties and logistical needs, including pre- and post- event needs.
  • Collaborate with the Development Coordinator to ensure procurement of goods for volunteer events and kit packing opportunities.
  • In concert with the VP of Strategic Partnerships, lead project management and collaboration between CHI / CHNY to put together CHNY’s Annual Art Show.
  • Oversee project deadlines, tasks, and event-related needs including art curation & selection, art exhibition needs, event related assets including artist statements, and other event-related needs to produce CHNY’s Art Show.
  • Plan in coordination with the Partnership & Communications Coordinator to align meaningful non-profit art programs that serve as Art Show submission opportunities.
  • Serve as primary point-person for event-planning around cultivation of Peer-to-Peer relationships, including, but not limited to, planning and leading site visits and tours and coordinating and hosting related events.
  • Work closely with the SVP of Development & Communications and CHI’s Peer-to-Peer team to ideate the process planning around new Sleep Out opportunities.
  • Spearhead event-related needs to ensure successful Sleep Out activations, with guidance and support from CHI’s Events team.
  • Oversight on CHNY’s holiday program, including Deck the Halls, Holiday Elf sorting shifts, and other volunteer events.
  • Work closely with the Development Coordinator to collect site themes and procure decorating supplies to host Deck the Halls across all six CHNY locations.
  • Spearhead the plans for event-related supplies, storage, and scheduling to produce the Holiday Elf volunteer shifts, in collaboration with the rest of the Development & Communications team.
  • Collaborate with the Partnership & Communications Coordinator to utilize communications platforms as a means to promote volunteer & cultivation events to drive recruitment.
  • Collaborate with CHI’s Corporate Partnership team to action CHNY partner engagement and in-kind donations to support key events such as Youth Homelessness Awareness Month, Rally to End Youth Homelessness, and other major donor cultivation events.
  • Plan cross-collaboratively with CHNY’s Youth Development team and various other CHNY / CHI teams to ensure initiatives including Black History Month, Pride Month, and other important awareness month opportunities actively engage new & existing partners.
  • Brainstorm and create new opportunities for donor and volunteer events based on observation and feedback collected from CHNY / CHI teams at meetings, from attending current opportunities, and from hearing from CHNY youth directly.

    • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, at minimum.
  • 4+ years’ experience working in non-profit development, preferably with substantial experience cultivating and closing on corporate and / or faith-based funding and demonstrated leadership growth in these areas.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of external stakeholders, including but not limited to volunteers, donors, or other community partners
  • Experience planning and executing at least two fundraising and / or stakeholder appreciation events.
  • Experience using Asana or another project management software.
  • Experience working with diverse groups required.
