The Role :
We’re looking for a Part-Time Wine Buyer to help curate and grow our wine program at Piccadilly Market. This role will begin at approximately three days per week, with the opportunity to expand into a full-time managerial buyer role next year as we open our second market — a new location featuring a wine bar concept.
The ideal candidate has a strong palate, deep curiosity about wine, and a desire to connect great producers with our community. This role combines creative curation, relationship-building, and hands-on work in a fast-moving retail environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Sourcing & Purchasing
- Evaluate, taste, and select wines that reflect our values, meet quality and profit goals, and excite our customers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with distributors, wineries, and importers.
- Attend tastings, trade events, and industry gatherings to stay current on trends and discover new producers.
Inventory & Operations
Manage stock levels and monitor sales data to inform purchasing decisions.Maintain accurate records, process invoices, and track orders to ensure smooth operations.Collaborate with the General Manager and Market team to maintain organized displays and seasonal features.Community & Education
Support and lead in-store tasting events, wine club selections, and other customer engagement opportunities.Educate staff on wine selections, producers, and key selling points to enhance the guest experience.Collaborate with marketing to create engaging promotions and storytelling around the wine program.Market Growth
Provide insight and recommendations for the future wine bar concept, including potential producers, service style, and pricing strategy.Help shape the long-term vision of Piccadilly Market’s wine identity as we grow.Qualifications & Skills
Strong knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and production methods.Proven experience in wine retail, restaurant, or distributor buying preferred.Excellent tasting and evaluation skills with a keen sense for quality and value.Strong communication and organizational skills.Comfortable managing administrative details and multiple priorities.Passion for connecting people with great wine and supporting small producers.WSET certification or equivalent knowledge is a plus.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Schedule & Compensation :
Part-time : 2-3 days per week to start (approximately 20 hours).Hourly : $30 / hrOpportunities for professional development and role expansion as we grow.
