Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Director (Academic), Broadcast Instruction & Programming at its Detroit campus location.

Essential Functions
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Radio & Media including : WAYN Radio (COM 4680); Graduate Student Audio Storytelling (COM 7100); Fundamentals of New Media Production (COM 1610); Media Writing & Storytelling (COM 2210); Audio Production (COM 4310); Communication, Culture & Conflict (COM 6380); Audience Measurement & Survey Techniques (COM 6530); Director’s Workshop (COM 5410); Internship (COM 6190). Advise students. Oversee and direct the 24 / 7 / 365 station program schedule. Determine, evaluate and continuously improve WDET’s regular program schedule. Oversee unique local programs covering a variety of musical genres, storytelling, narrative content and current affairs programming. Provide overall leadership, direction, and management to exempt and non-exempt staff. Create, implement, and continuously improve strategy to maximize service to a wide range of listeners. Conceive and organize special projects consistent with the WDET brand and audience needs, including on-air fundraisers, music festivals, remote broadcasts, special coverage and extended preemptions. Oversee unique, local programs and syndicated offerings. Create new programs for a wide range of listeners. Supervise students and staff including one Operations and Production Manager; one Senior Producer, “The Metro” (Public Affairs Program); and13 program hosts / producers.
Qualifications
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Media Management & 5 year’s experience as a Program Director in Radio, Media, and / or the Arts. Position also requires : 5 year’s experience working with a variety of musical genres, storytelling & narrative content, & current affairs programming expressed through far-reaching and divergent forms for multiple audiences. Some required qualifications may be met concurrently during the same 5-year period. May be offered an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Communication.
