Financial Care Counselor - Cardiology
We are seeking a Financial Care Counselor in our Duke Cardiology of Raleigh clinic located in Raleigh, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.
Job duties and responsibilities include:
- Obtain prior authorization/pre-certification for clinic and cath lab procedures as required by insurance carriers as needed according to PDC guidelines.
- Obtain insurance verification and inform patients of their financial liability. Arrange payment options for financially liable patients.
- Pre-register patients with accurate patient demographics and financial data as needed. Contact patients in advance if they do not have insurance listed and create estimates. Properly document all patient communication.
- Resolve insurance claim denials/rejections. Work monthly denial list to find any billing or denial issues.
- Calculate and collect payments appropriately for all patients.
- Resolve appropriate WQ and claim edits.
- Inform attending physician of patient financial hardship and keep the providers update regarding any peer to peer requests.
- Update billing system account notes and referrals to reflect the current insurance status of the patient.
- Reconcile necessary billing and work queue issues. Assist with department coverage as needed. It will include: referrals, recalls, order workqueues, no-show lists, in-basket messages, log into the cisco phone system and take calls to help the team, cover the front desk check-in and check-out.
- Gather necessary information and documentation to support proper handling of billing inquiries and complaints. Handle cash management and close out other employees cash on a daily basis.
Job eligibility requirements include:
- Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally required through a high school education, with some postsecondary education preferred. Additional training or working knowledge of related business.
- Two years of experience working in a hospital service access, clinical service access, physician office or billing and collections. Or an Associate's degree in a healthcare related field and one year of experience working with the public. Or a Bachelor's degree and one year of experience working with the public.
Job hours are day shifts.
