We are seeking a creative, intelligent, energetic, dedicated and compassionate Personal Companion / Caregiving Assistant to provide in-home companionship, activity, engagement, outings and support for a physically healthy older adult who has dementia.
The ideal candidate will be a non-smoker who has experience in either nursing, physical or occupational therapy, teaching, coaching, or caregiving (of children and/or adults). This role requires an active and proactive individual who is committed to improving the daily life experience of the client. This is NOT bedside or passive care.
The candidate must be capable of driving; familiar with Johnson County, Kansas, and willing to accompany the client to a variety of activities including physical fitness, social outings, senior-specific interactions, etc. The candidate must demonstrate critical thinking skills, and utilize both expertise and intuition to best meet the client's needs.
Paid training will be provided, and the employer is committed to providing a living wage (with periodic merit or COLA increases) based on experience and fit for the position. Detailed instructions for all aspects of client care will be provided.
The client needs assistance with personal care/hygiene and cueing for many daily activities. Professionally prepared healthy meals are provided for the caregiver to enjoy with the client; when dining out, the caregiver meals will be paid for by the client. The client will also cover caregiver fees or costs for any activities or outings enjoyed during their shift(s).
Duties
Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, dressing, grooming & cueing for daily routines.
Provide daily conversation, interaction, activities and outings to maintain client's healthy engagement in life.
Monitor client's health and report any changes or concerns to the employer.
Maintain cleanliness and organization within the living space to promote a healthy atmosphere.
Regularly communicate and collaborate with family members and the client's care team to ensure comprehensive care.
Experience
Previous experience in nursing, PT, OT, or other active caregiving settings is preferred.
Familiarity with dementia needs, senior care monitoring techniques and CPR certification is advantageous.
Strong interpersonal skills are required, with the ability to communicate effectively.
A compassionate approach to caregiving, demonstrating patience and understanding in all interactions is necessary.
High School Diploma required; secondary education/degree is preferred.
Work Schedule
The client requires 24/7 care. Most shifts are 12 hours (8am to 8pm; 8pm to 8am).
The current need is for daytime care - primarily on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Splitting or alternating weekends with another caregiver is an option. If you prefer shorter shifts, we can discuss that option as well.
Availability to cover weekday shifts as needed is helpful.
Overtime will be paid as required by Kansas law.
