Job Description
Viridian Staffing’s Client is seeking an experienced Accounting and Finance professional to step into a hands-on Controller / Senior Accountant role supporting a cannabis dispensary operation in Denver, Colorado. This position will be fully on-site for the first several months to establish strong operational foundations, with the opportunity to transition into a hybrid schedule once systems, access, and workflows are fully stabilized.
Founded in 2013, Viridian Staffing ( www.viridianstaffing.com ) is the original staffing, recruiting, and HR consulting firm solely dedicated to organizations in and supporting the commercial, medical, and industrial cannabis and hemp industry.
As the Controller, you will be trusted with broad ownership of the accounting function in a fast-moving, highly regulated cannabis environment. This is a true wear-many-hats role for someone who enjoys being close to the business and understands that in a small but growing organization, accounting, finance, operations, and problem-solving often intersect.
You will oversee day-to-day accounting operations while also supporting higher-level financial reporting and planning. Your work will include maintaining the general ledger, preparing and closing monthly financial statements, managing payroll processes, and ensuring accurate accounting. You will partner closely with leadership to review monthly P&Ls, cash flow, and balance sheets, participate in quarterly financial reviews, and coordinate with external CPAs who handle tax filings and audits.
This role requires working knowledge of cannabis-specific accounting complexities, including 280E, as well as comfort operating in an industry where regulations, payment processing, and compliance requirements are constantly evolving. You will work primarily in QuickBooks Online and Excel, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and helping streamline systems across payroll, timekeeping, scheduling, and reporting platforms. Experience consolidating or improving disconnected systems is highly valued.
Culturally, this organization is looking for someone who is adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working alongside leaders and team members across functions. Success in this role comes from strong communication, practical problem-solving, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves when needed—whether that means supporting a payroll run, addressing a processor issue, or helping leadership make sense of the numbers during a period of change.
The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 3-10 years of accounting experience, with hands-on cannabis industry experience strongly preferred. You should have a solid foundation in accrual accounting, GAAP principles, and financial reporting, along with demonstrated proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks Online. Prior experience working in a regulated industry and partnering with external CPAs is important. A CPA is not required but is considered a plus.
This position is well-suited for an Accounting professional who enjoys both the strategic and tactical sides of the work, thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, and values accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Compensation :
Salary range of $80,000–$100,000, depending on experience.
Health insurance benefits are offered.
Application Timeline
Applications for this position will be accepted through December 29, 2025 . Early applications are encouraged, as interviews may begin on a rolling basis.
