Description

The City of Oxnards Wastewater Department is seeking a Collections Operator. Under general supervision this position will carryout the full range of responsibilities assigned to the Wastewater Collection Operator series including maintenance of wastewater and stormwater collection systems as well as flood control facilities and systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate comprehensive understanding of applicable policies procedures and work methods and performs related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOULL DO :

Operate and assist with combination trucks and video inspection units

Set up traffic control

Perform weed abatement on earthen channels

Remove debris and mowing

Clean catch basins culverts and storm drains

Be available for standby / on-call duty and work in wet conditions

Operate heavy equipment

Perform other related tasks as assigned

Incumbents may serve as lead workers assigning and monitoring the work of others

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :

This classification is distinguished from the Utilities Field Technician in that it performs skilled inspection maintenance and repair work of assigned equipment and may serve as a lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work completion.

WORK SCHEDULE : The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 6 : 30am to 4 : 00pm and alternating Fridays 6 : 30am to 3 : 00pm. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work addition this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.

Essential Functions

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.

• Performs skilled installation maintenance repair and / or replacement of equipment in assigned area of water distribution wastewater collection and / or utility meter operations; may serve as a lead worker by assigning and monitoring the work of others.
• Performs inspections of equipment systems and work sites in assigned area; identifies issues related to equipment operating processes measurements calibration and / or service quality; addresses issues by making repairs recommendations adjustments and / or referring complex issues to appropriate resource.
• Organizes and maintains assigned equipment tools supplies and materials; maintains activity records files and documentation related to assignment area.
• Receives and responds to inquiries and information requests; provides general information related to area of assignment; refers specialized technical requests to appropriate resource. Responds to emergency requests as required.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

NOTE : For most positions the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office / Google) and web-based enabled tools therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.

Regular and reliable attendance effective communication skills and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.

Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.

This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
