Job Overview

The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will be responsible for (1) conducting civil rights investigations at Georgetown University, in particular complex investigations of complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment based on protected characteristics; (2) developing and delivering training on topics related to Georgetown's compliance with federal and local non-discrimination and anti-harassment laws; (3) conducting climate assessments within the University and supporting the University's disability compliance obligations; and (4) assisting with coordination of the University's response to bias-related incidents and informal resolution processes. The Senior Civil Rights Investigator and Compliance Manager will report to the Associate Vice President for Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Compliance within the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Affirmative Action (IDEAA).

Work Interactions

The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will work closely with multiple University offices and divisions, including the Department of Human Resources and the Office of General Counsel. The Senior Civil Rights Investigator will be expected to act as a neutral party in conducting prompt and thorough investigations of alleged incidents, and will provide detailed, unbiased reports regarding investigative findings. The responsibilities of the Senior Civil Rights Investigator will include :

• Conducting investigations of allegations of discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environment based on protected categories, including age, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and national origin, including where complaints are filed against employees and third parties
• Developing investigative plans
• Contacting parties and providing them with information about the investigatory process
• Interviewing parties and witnesses
• Gathering and analyzing relevant documentation
• Keeping detailed, consistent, and accurate records
• Maintaining timely communication with parties
• Drafting and issuing reports regarding the findings of the investigation
• Implementing and keeping apprised of new developments and best practices in Title IX and civil rights matters, including supporting the adjudication of Title IX Sexual Harassment matters
• Conducting climate assessments of University departments
• Developing and delivering non-discrimination and anti-harassment training for community members
• Creating and providing trainings related to employment equity issues, the University's grievance procedures, and employee reporting obligations
• Coordinating reasonable accommodations for employees
• Providing support for University compliance obligations related to employment equity
• Assisting with coordination of the University's response to bias-related incidents
• Facilitating informal resolutions among community members in discrimination and harassment matters

Requirements and Qualifications

At least 10 years of professional experience, at least 8 of which should include experience conducting discrimination and harassment, or related investigations, preferably in the higher education or civil rights context

Beneficial experience will include :

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

$103,723.00 - $202,778.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
