Location : California State Hospitals (Multiple Sites – As Needed)

Schedule : As Needed / On-Call

Position Type : Locum Tenens / Contract

Contract Term : Through July 2026 (with potential extensions)

Position Summary :

Provider Healthcare is seeking Licensed Clinical Psychologists to support the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH) on an as-needed, temporary / relief basis. This role is ideal for dedicated psychologists with flexibility, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to high standards of care within a state hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities :

Deliver clinical psychological services to patients within a California State Hospital facility, under the direction of the Chief Psychologist or their designee.

Perform comprehensive psychological evaluations, assessments, and documentation in accordance with legal, clinical, and regulatory standards.

Support the facility’s mission to provide high-quality mental health care in compliance with Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations , Joint Commission standards , and Department of Justice requirements .

Ensure timely, complete, and accurate documentation for all patient care provided.

Provide services to any patient referred for treatment, regardless of case complexity or status.

Qualifications :

Doctorate in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited program.

Active, unrestricted California license as a Clinical Psychologist.

Minimum of 6 months experience working with severely mentally ill patients (preferred experience in forensic or institutional settings).

Ability to adapt to institutional protocols and work under the guidance of facility leadership.

Must provide documentation of current CPR certification , malpractice insurance, and other credentials as required.

Additional Requirements :

Must be willing to travel to assigned DSH facilities throughout California.

All-inclusive compensation (rate must include logistics such as travel, lodging, etc.).

Must meet state and facility onboarding requirements, including fingerprinting and credentialing.
