SEN Teaching Assistant - No Experience Required

Location : South GloucestershirePay : From £450 / week or £90 / day on PAYE

Start Date : ASAP or 2nd March 2026 Axcis Education is working in partnership with two specialist SEND schools to recruit caring, motivated Teaching Assistants to join their teams. These settings support children and young people whose needs cannot be met in mainstream education and provide a highly personalised, therapeutic and outdoor-focused approach to learning. If you are patient, practical, and passionate about making a genuine difference, this is an excellent opportunity to start a rewarding career in SEND. No previous school experience is required – full training and ongoing support will be provided. About the role You will support pupils across primary and secondary age ranges with a range of additional needs, including : Autism and communication needs Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs ADHD and sensory processing differences Speech and language difficulties Complex learning profiles and developmental delays Class sizes are small, typically between 6–10 pupils, with a high staff-to-student ratio. This allows for a calm, relationship-based approach where staff can really get to know each child and tailor support to their individual needs. Your day might include : Supporting one-to-one or in small groups during lessons such as maths, literacy and life skills Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage anxiety using consistent routines and de-escalation strategies Supporting sensory breaks, movement activities and structured play Assisting with communication tools such as visuals, timetables and social stories Encouraging independence with personal care, organisation and daily living skills where needed Taking part in outdoor and practical learning sessions Outdoor learning is a key part of the curriculum. Pupils regularly access forest school activities, gardening and growing projects, animal care, construction and hands-on vocational tasks, as well as learning beyond the classroom to build confidence, resilience and teamwork. Staff are actively involved in these sessions, so this role suits someone who enjoys being outside and learning in a practical, active way rather than sitting at a desk all day. About the schools These are nurturing, specialist environments designed to feel safe and supportive rather than clinical or traditional. There is a strong focus on wellbeing, positive relationships and helping pupils develop emotionally as well as academically. Many learners have experienced challenges in previous settings, so consistency, empathy and trust are at the heart of the provision. You’ll be part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team that may include teachers, therapists, pastoral staff and behaviour specialists, all working together to help each child succeed.
