The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our report. We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on-camera share urgent news updates produce on-the-ground reporting pioneering Visual Investigations and video podcasts.

We are looking for a Video Editor based in our Los Angeles bureau who will work across a range of our video coverage. You have a strong video editing background and a portfolio that demonstrates versatility in style as well as the ability to deliver engaging work on tight deadlines. You have deep experience in breaking and ongoing news coverage with experience creating digitally compelling short-form video journalism. Your focus will be news including reporter videos spun up later in the day on the East Coast. You will work closely with video journalists and producers bringing the story to life with creative execution.

This is an in-office position based in LA and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.

Responsibilities :

• Edit news enterprise and investigative linear news videos.
• Edit and publish short news text-on-screen packages and clips in breaking news scenarios as required.
• Incorporate animation motion graphics and graphic templates for new and existing formats.
• Prepare smooth project handovers and pick up incomplete edits to take to the finish line.
• Understand our publishing platform and the workflow for getting videos onsite and to social platforms.
• Organize raw files and independently source archival and wires material.
• Experiment with different forms of vertical and mobile visual storytelling on and off-platform.
• Demonstrate excellent news judgment.
• Work within a newsroom environment and under deadline pressure.
• Occasionally guide junior staff on edits and be comfortable working autonomously.
• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independenceand a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
• This role reports to a Senior Producer based in LA.

The annual base pay range for this role is between :

$113945.85 - $120000 USD
