Child Development Center Assistant Director
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Child Development Center Director in implementing and supervising on-going developmental childcare and preschool programs for children six weeks through 5 years of age in the child and youth program at the installation. Responsibilities include providing technical and administrative supervision to GS and NAF employees, managing day-to-day operations of the Child Development Center, and serving as facility custodian. The role also involves discussing child care problems with parents, answering their questions, and resolving issues. Additionally, the position requires performing a wide variety of administrative duties related to various child care programs.
Requirements include a degree in education or a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience. Specialized experience in group child care or other work demonstrating the ability to manage a child care center is necessary. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the field of child development, early childhood education, or a related discipline is required, along with nine credit hours in leadership, management, and / or administration.
The ideal candidate would have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or a related discipline. Specialized coursework in areas like child development, curriculum development, and business administration is crucial. For a military setting, additional training in areas like recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect is essential. Hands-on experience is critical, with a proven track record that includes experience in a military Child Development Center, the ability to mentor and coach a team, and program management experience in developing and implementing age-appropriate curricula and programs.
