Job Summary
This senior machinist role involves leading advanced machining operations for mission-critical components. The position requires high-level CNC programming (done at the machine), process optimization, technical mentoring, and ensuring compliance with strict standards. Responsibilities
- Lead setup, programming, and operation of complex multi-axis CNC and manual machines.
- Develop and implement advanced machining strategies for new and existing aerospace components.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to design / optimize tooling, fixtures, and machining processes.
- Perform advanced inspections using precision instruments; validate critical dimensions and tolerances.
- Troubleshoot high-complexity machining issues and support root cause analysis for quality deviations.
- Serve as technical mentor and trainer for Machinist I–III team members.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Participate in cross-functional teams for new product introductions and process validations.
- Maintain detailed documentation of machining processes, setups, and improvements.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by manager / supervisor.
Requirements
High school diploma or GED (required); associate degree or technical certification (strongly preferred).5–10+ years of machining experience, including advanced CNC programming and setup with Lathes or Mills.Ability to program CNC machines from scratch at the machine (G-code and / or conversational programming).Capable of taking a drawing / blueprint and writing a program directly at the machine.Proficient in interpreting complex blueprints.Advanced inspection skills, including use of comparators and other precision tools.Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.Demonstrated reliability, good attendance, and positive team-oriented attitude (highly valued by the company).Preferred Requirements
Proficiency with CAD / CAM software (though shop programming is currently done at the machine, not via offline CAD / CAM).Familiarity with multi-axis machining systems and a variety of machine controls (no specific brand required; experience with conversational controls like Mazatrol or Herco is helpful).Experience with OD grinding, and / or surface grinding.Leadership and mentoring experience with junior machinists.Proficient in applying GD&TCompensation / Benefits
