Job Description - Pre-Apprentice, Electronics Technician

Candidates selected for testing will receive a confirmation at the email address provided on the application with notification of the scheduled date and time for the testing session. If a passing score is received on the written test, candidates will be notified via email of their scheduled interview date and time.

  • A vacancy exist for the position of Pre-Apprentice Electronics Technician in Communication Services.  Normal Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

    Must possesses a valid up-to-date driver license

    An understanding of electrical theory and college algebra

    Ability physically bend, stoop, lift and climb, and carry tools for extended periods of time

    Ability to climb towers and structures

    Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

    Ability to work harmoniously with fellow workers and customers maintaining a positive attitude

    Ability to work in the field on an all-day basis, overtime, holidays, weekends, inclement weather, and to travel for out-of-town work.

    Ability to work in a manner that prevents injury

    Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks

    Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

    In order to qualify for this bid, you will have to progress through three different exams.The first will be a technical test. The test will have 50 questions, with a time limit of two hours.A passing score of 85% must be met on this test.

    A second required step is the successful passing the practical assessment. The purpose of this course is to ascertain a person’s ability to perform the work of this position.

    Upon successful completion of the practical assessment, you will then move into the core competency oral interview stage.

    We are giving you a study outline to prepare for the technical skills written test, practical assessment and the core competency interview. By using this outline, and centralizing your study times in the areas listed below, you should be able to maximize your test results.

    Technical Skills Test Outline

    Knowledge of the following :

    Basic math and algebra

    Basic electrical theory and terms

    Ability to make calculations using Ohms law

    Ability to identify electrical components

    Understanding of principals of AC circuits

    Safe work practices

    OSHA / Safety Rules

    The interview is a behavioral based interview incorporating our Core Competencies. In this process we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior and more recent behavior is a better predictor of future behavior than older behavior, and that long-standing trends are better predictors of behavior than isolated incidents. We therefore have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with high predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required.     Position Description :

    This job classification is an entry classification position, which is designed to train the employee to assume the responsibilities of an Apprentice Electronics Technician. Under close supervision by an Electronics Technician, the employee assists, acquires knowledge and experience, and progressively learns the craft.

    Position-Related Responsibilities :

  • Perform all the basic duties and less skilled operations in connection with construction, operation, and maintenance performed by personnel in the section.
  • Learn safety rules, practices and procedures used by the company and the section.
  • Assist Electronics Technicians.
  • Perform duties of progressively increasing importance and complexity.
  • Perform assigned work is a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Must have the ability to climb communications towers and structures
  • Must be able to travel out of the Tucson area to work on remote Company facilities
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work overtime as deemed necessary by the Company
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and algebra
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Neat and orderly work habits
  • Ability to work in harmony with others

    Pay Rate :   $36.84 / hr
