JOB DESCRIPTION

The Community Support Worker III will assist in facilitating self-help and other groups as needed, engage and orient clients to the program community. In addition, advocate in the community for support of programs for the mentally ill and to promote community knowledge and understanding; support the program with clients who may need assistance with advocating for themselves and encourage and support recreational activities, employment; Use agency vehicle to transport clients as needed.

COMPENSATION

$15.75 - $17.04 per hour. Non-exempt; 19 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.

Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: GED or High School Diploma. Direct experience as a consumer of public or private mental health services. At least one year of experience as a Community Support Worker II or equivalent work experience; or volunteer work with persons with mental health conditions. All experience must be within the last five years. Completion of Human Services Certification, or Basic Skills Curriculum for the Mental Health Workforce, or Peer to Peer Certificate. Clerical/Office Skills Certification or equivalent coursework. General knowledge and insight into the needs and potential of the population served. Good organizational skills, creative, oriented to people and group activities. Good English communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work one-on-one with clients without supervision. Ability to keep detailed records. Computer Proficiency and ability to learn/utilize Avatar required, competency needs to be demonstrated. Maintain professional standards of performance, demeanor and appearance at all times. Maintain an awareness of Interim’s mission and promote the agency’s goals. Maintain the strictest of confidentiality. Comply with the agency policies and standards. Ability to work with a diverse staff and clients and excel in a multi-cultural environment. Exercise discretion and professional judgment at all times. Actively strive to upgrade professional skills through engaging in appropriate professional training experience.

Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.

Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred: AA degree. Bi-lingual in Spanish.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Engage and orient clients to the program community.

2.Facilitate self-help and other groups as needed.

3.Perform office duties and use computer proficiently according to program needs.

4.Provide informal supportive counseling and guidance to individual residents/clients.

5.Provide support for those program clients who may need assistance with advocating for themselves.

6.Keep appropriate detailed and accurate documentation (including but not limited to Medi-Cal billing and HMIS forms).

7.Act as a lead and/or coordinator of program’s CSWI’s, CSWII’s and Volunteers as applicable (i.e. scheduling, supporting, coaching).

8.Assist clients, individually or in groups, to develop and maintain independent living skills (budgeting, shopping, cooking, social skills, etc.).

9.Encourage and support recreational activities, employment; Use agency vehicle to transport clients as needed.

10.Develop and facilitate various self-help groups or run dual recovery support groups.

11.Assist clients in medication support, individually or in groups. Tasks could include daily visits to individual clients to review medication and assistance to clients in charting medication usage.

12.Serve as a mentor to those individuals who may need additional emotional support or encouragement to attend school or work.

13.Connect individuals with community resources i.e. food bank, DRA meetings, etc.

14.Organize and coordinate meal preparation for a group without support from a counselor.

15.Advocate in the community for support of programs for the mentally ill and to promote community knowledge and understanding.

17.Assist when needed with house meetings if applicable.

18.Attend staff meeting as assigned

19.Attend Interim and program training as assigned.

20.Clean and straighten program facilities.

21.Work as a member of a support team.

22.Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to: operate a motor vehicle and company van; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
