Diagnoses and treats speech and language difficulties and conditions of patients in skilled nursing, inpatient, outpatient and community environments by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.
Critical Tasks :
Maintains exclusive focus upon patients / residents, the quality of their care, and their individual needs without significant distraction by administrative and non-patient contact activities.
Evaluates hearing and speech / language tests as well as medical background information to diagnose and plan successful treatments for speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders.
Provides inpatient or outpatient occupational therapy services including screenings, consultations, evaluations and ongoing treatments.
Plans, directs, and conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology.
Provides high quality evidenced-based speech therapy.
Evaluates and accurately documents patient progress and continually adjusts treatment methodologies accordingly.
Develops, adjusts and manages individual patient plans of care.
Consults with other members of rehabilitation team to select treatment methods consistent with the needs and conditions of individual patients.
Undertakes treatment methodologies suited to individual's capacity, intelligence, and interests to assist in restoration of speech and language functions, and aid in adjustment to disability.
Provides counseling, guidance and language development therapy to otherwise disabled individuals.
Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
Reviews treatment plans, and assesses individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs.
Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to practice new skills.
Conducts research to develop diagnostic and remedial speech therapy techniques.
Serves as a consultant to classroom teachers to incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedules as necessary.
Maintains high productivity and consults / serves 8-16 patients per shift.
Provides timely medical documentation in accordance with all regulatory and payor requirements.
Participates and consults in interdisciplinary therapies care coordination and program discharge planning.
Complies fully with all regulatory and information privacy standards and mandates.
Teaches manual sign language to patient's incapable of speaking.
Supervises and provides effective training to multiple employees.
Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
Master of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Arizona Speech Language Pathology License in good standing.
LSVT training and experience preferred.
3 years of experience treating patients in licensed Speech and Language pathology / therapy facility.
Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and / or other Native American cultures.
Employment at the Caring House requires : AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card within 60 days in position.
