Associate Civil Engineer
The City of Pinole is seeking a qualified and motivated Associate Civil Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects. This position performs professional engineering work related to streets, bridges, water and wastewater systems, and other public works facilities. Responsibilities include project management, plan review, coordination with consultants and contractors, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

Definition
Under administrative direction, performs high level office and field engineering duties and administrative functions, which include infrastructure engineering, design and construction; streets and traffic control; underground lines; review of private sector development; facility, equipment and infrastructure maintenance; provides assistance to the City; fosters cooperative working relationships with intergovernmental and regulatory agencies; and performs related work as required.
Supervision Received / Exercised
The Associate Engineer receives administrative direction from the Public Works Director / City Engineer. Exercises no direct supervision of staff. May provide technical and functional direction to technical and office support staff. May act as a project leader for major projects.
Class Characteristics
This is a single level class where employees within this class perform the full range of professional engineering duties. Incumbents perform complex professional engineering assignments requiring considerable knowledge of various aspects of civil engineering including land development, planning, design standards and regulations, construction, and maintenance.
Examples of Duties
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following :
Civil engineering principles, practices, and methods of planning, design, construction and maintenance of public works projects.
Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures and other written materials.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be :
Associate Civil Engineer - Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a field related to the work and four years of supervisory or administrative experience in either a public works setting or as a professional engineer working with public agencies. Experience in overseeing the development of capital improvement projects is desirable. License : Must possess a valid California class C driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with good standing is required from any US State and must acquire Professional Civil Engineer certification in California within 12 months of employment.
Assistant Enginee r - One (1) year of experience in professional civil engineering work and a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in civil engineering; or possession of an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate; and two (2) years of professional engineering experience in either a public works setting or as a professional engineer working with public agencies. Licenses : Must possess a valid California class C driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Physical Demands : Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, to inspect various City infrastructure, development, field operations and work sites and meeting sites, and to operate a motor vehicle; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups and over the telephone.
