Position Overview
Pathway Talent Partners is partnering with a privately held, multi-generation transportation company to identify an accomplished Controller to lead the organization's financial, administrative, and operational functions.
This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership opportunity for an executive who can modernize systems, strengthen processes, and align financial strategy with day-to-day fleet and field operations. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of strategic financial leadership and practical operational execution, enabling scalable infrastructure, improved reporting, and stronger communication across departments.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations for a multi-entity, multi-state transportation business
- Manage and produce monthly and quarterly financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
- Lead and streamline billing, invoicing, and documentation processes, including time & materials, labor, and equipment billing under master service agreements
- Partner closely with an external accounting firm, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and review processes
- Identify and resolve discrepancies
- Supervise and support the accounting team, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, while collaborating closely with administrative leadership
- Ensure compliance with multi-state tax filings, reporting requirements, and industry-specific regulations
- Improve reporting, processes, and controls to support operational clarity and planned growth
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to leadership, balancing hands-on execution with thoughtful process improvement
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within services, transportation, logistics, construction, or rail-related industriesPrior experience at the Accounting Manager or Controller levelStrong working knowledge of Sage / Peachtree or similar ERP systemsProven experience preparing monthly and quarterly financialsExperience working with external CPA firms and auditorsDemonstrated ability to manage and mentor small accounting teamsFamiliarity with time & materials billing, service contracts, and invoicing under MSAsExperience with multi-entity and multi-state accounting and tax complianceStrong attention to detail with the ability to investigate and resolve variancesComfortable in a hands-on, family-owned business environmentPractical, down-to-earth leadership style; collaborative, steady, and culturally aligned with a close-knit team
