Pathology Technician, First Shift, Pathology Department

UC Health is hiring a full-time Pathology Technician for the pathology department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The Pathology Technician aids Anatomic Pathology attendings and residents as well as performs gross dissection and dictation of simple pathology specimens. The Pathology Technician performs autopsy services, maintains the autopsy suite, receives, accessions, and processes pathology specimens, and assists with specimen resolution, instrument trouble shooting and the maintaining of policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

• Engages in population appropriate communication.
• Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Gives clear instructions to patients / family regarding treatment.
• Involves family / guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
• Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients / families with behavioral health problems.
• Interprets population related data and plans care appropriately.
• Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms.
• Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
• Recognizes and responds to signs / symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Specimen gross dissection of simple specimens
• Specimen dictation
• Frozen sections
• Specimen transport from units in hospital
• Specimen receiving from outside clinics
• Specimen processing and disposal
• Autopsy Assistant (case documentation, performing autopsy, releasing to the funeral home)
• Morgue maintenance (cleaning, stocking, quality control documentation)
• Specimen troubleshooting
• Instrument troubleshooting
• Assist in maintaining laboratory policies and procedures
• Assist in maintaining inventory and stock room
• Perform other duties as assigned
