Access Control Specialist II
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Physical Security, the Access Control Specialist II is responsible for developing and maturing this DPS component to include physical security strategies, asset protection, access control, and identifying gaps in controls, processes, and policies while overseeing all aspects of the Enterprise access control systems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Leads the strategic development, planning, and implementation of advanced security functions and enhancements to the physical security program within the Department of Public Safety, ensuring alignment with evolving enterprise and community objectives.
- Collaborates with IT and third-party integrators to coordinate firmware and software updates for Synergis and Genetec platforms, works with IT to apply patches and server modifications, integrate current and future applications, and monitors all access control equipment including servers, switches, workstations, and printers.
- With IT assistance, monitors the integrity and performance of the Enterprise electronic access control database by managing complex user credentialing, access provisioning, system audits, and data reconciliation. Works with IT to implement advanced controls and reporting mechanisms to ensure compliance with security protocols and regulatory standards.
- Develops and enforces enterprise-wide compliance strategies aligned with professional standards, internal policies, federal and state laws, Tribal ordinances, and Indian gaming regulations. Monitors adherence and drive continuous improvement in operational practices.
- Analyzes and responds to complex security incidents, including unauthorized access attempts, system failures, and environmental threats. Implements swift, effective resolutions and provides expert guidance on equipment-related issues to minimize operational disruptions.
- With assistance from IT and vendors, perform diagnostics, system resets, and after-hours repairs using the access control Mobile Workstation; ensures system continuity and reliability through proactive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Directs vendor coordination for emergency access control system repairs, including after-hours failures and hardware troubleshooting. Leads restoration efforts to return access control and alarm systems to full operational status.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
Education, Experience And Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required.Minimum two (2) years' experience in public or private sector security required.Minimum four (4) years' experience working with various electronic access control systems, and / or alarms required.Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSA)
Thorough understanding of access control systems principles and Synergis and the Genetec platforms.Ability to effectively collaborate with IT teams, third-party integrators, and vendors to support the implementation and maintenance of safety-critical and security-related systems.Verifiable experience in applying physical security strategies, including access control systems, security protocols, loss prevention, and physical security system design.Thorough knowledge of physical security principles and practices, including user identity and access controls and automated identity access management systems.Strong understanding of policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to identity and access management.Ability to become familiar with California Gaming Standards and regulatory requirements.Ability to understand the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation Tribal Government structure and operations.Ability to extract, read, and interpret data from systems and databases used in Gaming Operations and Facilities.Proven customer service excellence in high-security or gaming environments.Skilled in developing, planning, implementing, and assessing electronic access control (EAC), and other physical security systems.Well-connected within the security industry; established relationships with various security professionals is highly desirable.Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills.Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly and professionally to ensure effective communication in safety-critical and security-sensitive environments.Licenses, Certifications And Registrations
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.A Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certificate preferred.Genetec software certification is preferred.Authorized Driver : Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.Physical Requirements / Working Conditions Environment
Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.Incumbents may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and / or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and / or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.Sedentary work : involves sitting most of the time.
