The Health Manager ensures that children and families in our program have resources and services for the healthy development of children to ensure staff implementation of prevention and early intervention practices related to health safety and nutrition to oversee the delivery of health and nutrition services within the program and comply with health safety and nutrition components of EHS / HS performance standards and California Department of Education standards.
Primary Responsibilities Include :
- Ensure that all children enrolled in the program have all appropriate health screenings receive any needed health care and have a medical home for ongoing source of care. Arrange for payment of medical services for children who are uninsured or under-insured and their parents cannot afford to pay. Coordinate dental visits monitor services and follow up referrals. Provide parents an opportunity to become advocates regarding their childs health and community health issues
- Coordinate with managers / specialists to ensure that the specific needs of each identified child are in the review of IFSP / IEP as needed
- Partner with Center Managers in evaluating center environments for health and safety concerns. Monitor practices in centers regarding health safety and nutrition issues to ensure compliance with Head Start / Early Head Start performance standards : understand all contractual requirements regarding health mental health and nutrition; ensure that program deliverables are met. Prepare and submit program reports working with Center Managers to ensure that follow up activities are accomplished. Evaluate Health and Nutrition goals and restructure or revise as needed.
- Ensure program compliance with Wu Yee policies licensing pertinent laws guidelines Head Start Performance Standards as it relates to health safety and nutrition in all program areas
- Conduct department need assessments related to health safety and nutrition needs. Provide training to staff and parents on health safety and nutrition policies and best practices and serve as internal consultants to staff.
- Participate in tri-annual program monitoring and annual self-assessment process. Evaluate program data to determine efficacy of programs and develop or revise program policies as needed. Review data entered into our data system to ensure accuracy completeness and timeliness and that necessary corrections are made
- Collaborate with and do outreach to health services agencies to form formal and informal partnerships to meet the needs of the families and children in the program.
- Oversee food service operations including reports vendored services budgets and monitor compliance with USDA Child Care Food Program and Head Start regulations. Oversee the identification of nutritional needs of children and families using integrated screening system and observations.
- Lead the programs the Health Services Advisory Committee in partnership with the other two Head Start Grantees in San Francisco.
- Represent Head Start / Early Head Start program and Wu Yee Childrens Services in a positive and constructive manner in all dealings with staff government officials funders the public and in all public forums
- Support the Health Safety and Supervision regulations and monitor for injuries unusual incidents and supervision of children on an on-going basis. Provide training and consultation for staff when needed.
Nutrition Specific Responsibilities :
Oversee that a nutrition assessment is conducted for each Early Head Start and Head Start child and offer recommendations to staff and parents or make referrals for outside nutrition services; Provide written communication for staff and parents regarding nutrition servicesSupport the health coordinator to assure that monthly menus are translated and distributed to center-based programsAttend family meetings and orientations to provide information about upcoming trainingsAnalyze food / meal data to determine whether reporting from sites is accurate that billings are correct and that meals are appropriate for our childrenMaintain friendly working relations with food service vendor evaluate contract performance participate in negotiations for renewals manage bidding process and adjust meal plansMonitor contract funding cycles to determine when applications must be submitted; ensure that the Program Director is aware of due dates with sufficient time to prepare an application; Process food service invoices for payment; Participate in developing applications for funding pertinent to the programDesign and implement effective nutrition training for staff and parents; Train staff on food service and monthly reporting policies and procedures as needed; Provide staff and parents with information on nutrition resources in the community; Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with community agencies providing health / nutrition-related servicesConduct quarterly site visits using required site monitoring tool to determine compliance with applicable regulations set forth by the USDAOther duties as assignedKnowledge / Experience / Skills Required :

The pay range for this position is $80000 - $108139. New hiregenerally start between min of $80000- and mid of $90673.
