National Jewish Health is seeking an exceptional Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in the Specialty Services Clinic, which is home to five specialties : General Surgery, Interventional Pulmonology (IP), Neurology, Otolaryngology (ENT), and Thoracic Surgery.

The selected candidate will support the General Surgery, Neurology, and ENT patients during the procedural / surgical process by providing pre-procedure and preoperative education. They will work closely with providers to assist with minor procedures in the clinic such as biopsies and injections. Our high acuity patient population will also need support for specialty medications such as biologics and infusions in the form of education, coordination, and insurance authorization.

The Registered Nurse (RN) must utilize critical thinking skills, apply scientific judgment, and demonstrate leadership in planning for the care of the patient. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and able to prioritize tasks appropriately in this dynamic clinic.

The ideal candidate for this position brings nursing experience from an outpatient clinic, surgeon's office, PACU or procedure center. Additionally, previous experience with patient education and telephone triage of pre- and post-procedure patients is preferred. Daily responsibilities include :

  • Managing flow of patients including screening, preparation for exam, and arranging for testing and admissions
  • Educating patients and families regarding medications and treatment
  • Coordination of care for the surgical / procedural patient
  • Assisting with in-office procedures
  • Addressing incoming and outgoing telephone calls including phone triage, scheduling coordination, and patient education

Position Summary

Accurately plans and provides professional nursing care for patients, groups, or populations a systematic approach incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of plan of care using a variety of formats, tools, and technologies. The Ambulatory Clinic Registered Nurse works in a specialty care clinic and is responsible and accountable for facilitation and management of care coordination across the healthcare continuum. Utilizes the nursing process to work with interdisciplinary teams to provide safe and personalized care. Demonstrates core competencies in the area of practice.

Essential Duties

  • Systematically collects or supervises the collection of focused data relating to health needs and concerns of a patient, group, or population in the ambulatory clinic setting.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnostic statements for health promotion, health maintenance, or health-related problems or issues.
  • Identifies expected and / or desired outcomes in a plan of care individualized for a specific patient, group, or population.
  • Develops a plan that identifies strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes in individuals and / or populations and acts on plan of care.
  • Ensures the plan of care reflects the cultural, spiritual, intellectual, age, educational, and psychosocial differences of individual patients, groups, or populations.
  • Practices care coordination and transition management (CCTM) coordinating the delivery of care in the ambulatory clinic setting and across health care settings.
  • Employs educational strategies that promote individual, community, and population health and safety.
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of stated outcomes in plan of care.
  • Participates in projects, activities, committees, related to nursing and health care in clinical and organizational settings.
  • Participates in evidenced based practice and research strategies to advance ambulatory care nursing and improve patient outcomes.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education : Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing required, BSN preferred.
  • Work Experience : None
  • Special Training, Certification or Licensure : Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) License and current BLS certification required upon hire for all areas. Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification preferred.
  • Salary Range : $34.00 - $48.62
